So, if somehow Bethesda or Obsidian adds some lore that canonizes Fallout tactics, what would be the most likely (or just best for the story) canon ending, or rather, best current state of affairs for that geographical area of the world by Fallout 4 (or even just NV) timeline?

The best ending is probably sacrificing yourself, as it unites most of the Midwest, and increases the quality of life for all living within it. Canonically however, I'd argue that  the Midwest either a.) fell apart, or b.) never united properly, and never expanded far. Neither is an actual ending in the game, but I honestly find it hard to believe that the east coast brotherhood has never encountered them. Their original mission was to reunite with them anyways, and so completely glossing over a completely united Midwest with a population the size of a small country just seems improbable. That's just my opinion however, and I'm probably wrong. The realistic answer is that Bethesda is most likely never going to address them again, as tactics wasn't that well received. They drop hints about it every few games in terminals scattered around, but they've never said anything concrete and they probably never will. It would kind of go against Bethesda's mentality of leaving the player character's ending ambiguous, as saying anything concrete essentially nullifies half the playerbase's choices. I could see Obsidian writing about them, but Bethesda in their current state probably won't.

Technically, one ending in games is always the death screen, where the player has been defeated/wiped out/killed.

The best ending, if Bethesda and/or Obsidian decides to make a Fallout game that makes FOT canon, would probably be the Barnaky ending.

It makes the Brotherhood strong but it also hinders its growth that it does not threaten the other story lines in both the east and west coast. The player sacrifice ending, regardless if it was the good or bad ending, makes the Midwest Brotherhood of Steel too overpowered to the point that they could conquer the entire US with the help of Calculator robots and tech.

You get 2 factions with the Barnaky ending, the newly forged BOS with Barnaky and the Mutant Liberation Army, which is a good setup for a New Vegas/FO4 style story.

A dead Calculator is also a good ending to make another fallout game on where you get a Minutemen like story but with the Midwest BOS and you actually get the feeling that you are rebuilding civilization.

To those who don't know about the FOT endings.
