| Ahsoka was one of the best fiction books I've ever read. Fortunately it came before I went to the dentist, so I was able to read it in the car and the waiting room.
It takes a great character and makes her better, to be quite frank.
I want to copy-and-paste my review from my Facebook, but I'm wary of giving spoilers or acting like somebody who thinks they know more about Star Wars than everybody else. |

| I am quite intrigued by a book about her, I shall keep my eyes out for it. |

| I have to be honest, I found it pretty dull. Not bad per say, it was certainly readable, just not a page turner. I think it tried to be bigger than it managed and didn't go far enough with it's attempt at being progressive. I'm not a massive fan of progressive plot lines just for the sake of it anyway, not if they aren't in service of the overall story, as they just come across as pandering. It came across as weak. I'll delve into my problems below. - Ahsoka Spoilers:
What I speak of above is having a female supporting character have a crush on Ahsoka. I actually found it interesting at first, and was curious where it would go, as thus far (aside from receiving a rump slap in TCW from Bo-Katan) Ahsoka has had very little room to explore herself, and only had (potential) love interests with guys. Sadly, they wussed out, and the character admits to having a crush, in a moment where Ahsoka is far too busy for us to get anything close to an interesting reaction. Basically, she thinks "huh?". It would have been better a quick kiss or physical gesture, in the heat of the moment, that Ahsoka had to process and be uncertain about, delving into her thoughts and feelings about it.
Overall, the various plots of the book had no stakes and any tension was quickly dissipated. Oh, she has to fight Maul, as everyone else is busy with the Battle of Coruscant... except it's over in less than a page, a pre-made plan going perfectly and that's it. Oh, the Imperials are landing, and Ahsoka has decided not to run... but she leaves after the first hiccup, in her ship she conveniently kept. Oh, she is alone and without support in the galaxy, and has the Empire hunting her... but it turns out she made friends with a friendly gangster family before the book even begins, and meets Bail Organa before the end. Oh, she has to fight an Inquisitor, and she is younger and less experienced... but she deals with him as handily as she does Seventh Sister and Sixth Brother.
I felt like each time the story started to get interesting, it shot itself in the foot.
Just my thoughts. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much @maccrawinthejaw. I highly recommend A New Dawn, Lords of the Sith, and Lost Stars. If you haven't read much of the old canon, Shatterpoint, Shadow of Mindor, Dark Rendezvous, the Medstar Duology, and... well, a lot of stuff is really amazing. |

| It probably meant a bit more to me since I don't really read that many books; rather, I write 'em. Still, I never turn my nose up to specific things that interest me, so I ordered this book. In hindsight I do sort of agree with @Alixen, in that it didn't work well with pacing. My issues with it were ( spoilers) Ahsoka is ultimately a good read, though, and for anybody who's interested, there's an audio book of the novel read by Ashley Eckstein herself, but the way she reads it is as if Ahsoka herself is reading it; what I mean is that she does voices of characters such as Anakin and Maul (her impersonation of the latter is gut-busting), and her tone of voice kind of fluctuates depending on the seriousness of the scene. It's 7 hours long, but that is to be expected with most books, though then again most books don't have narrations by the actors/actresses that play the characters in them. |
