Hey guys I'm new to the modding community and I was wondering what are the best mods for Fallout New Vegas. I wanted to start playing the game but Bethesda's crappy engine stopped me. Recently, I found out that you can mod the game to make it much better. So what mods do you recommend?

For vanilla gameplay but better framerates and stuff.
Use 4GB Fallout New Vegas, New Vegas Stutter Remover, YUP, WMX, Weapon Mod Menu, MCM (Needed for Weapon Mod Menu), and Darnified UI. Mostly fixes and increase in ram use plus less stuttering. Along with that, more weapon mods for vanilla weapons plus uniques being moddable and the ability remove weapon mods. Darnified UI just cleans up the UI to suit PC gameplay.
(Optional) You can also get AG Supplementary Uniques which adds a boat load of new unique weapons that are great and relatively balanced for the game and makes adventuring more worthy.
For greater gameplay
I suggest Project Nevada but there are other overhauls that can possibly do better but that is the only one I know right now.

Hello, hope you enjoy your time... As for modding so long as you have a good manager and understand how to use it and slowly learn how the process works you can install play, and then uninstall (within reason etc) all the mods under the sun and enjoy loads of different ones..
@joshwist55 gave you many of what I use (and some I don't) Project Nevada is terrific game play overhaul... New Vegas Bounties gives you something for your higher level character to play.. the same author Someguy2000 has some other mods you might be int erest ed in as well. Check them out.
As a manager, I find Mod Organizer very useful. It is a bit more complex but well worth the learning curve. You can later actually see the files you installed for each of the mods in the manager separately.. Great to try to learn how and what goes where. Later you work directly on those files and edit them to your liking

Hey, thanks a lot for all the feedback! I downloaded Project Nevada, NVSR, and a weapons texture pack. I found the Mod Organizer was a little too complex for me at my stage @ritualclarity but I am planning on switching to it when my new pc arrives. Right now I'm using FOMM because it is not too complicated and it works well with Project Nevada.

FOMM is a solid game manager with all the tools you need to do modding and was used for a number of years. Recently it was reworked by Timeslip and Prideslayer (if I remember correctly) might have some others there. ... in any case, some final features and streamlining and tweaks were done to make it even better (more stable. ) Good manager.
Mod Organizer (Nexus Mod Manager/Vortex/Wyre Bash) are just able to handle more games with some other special features and reasons for each to be used.

@Maskofthesun I haven't seen it mentioned. You'll want to get the Unofficial Patch from Nexus. Fixes a lot of things. Also, I finally made the switch to Vortex as my mod manager and have been happy with it so far. Took a little bit getting used to from NMM and Mod Organizer but it has some neat features. Like Lucien said, stability is key for the game. Start getting familiar with Merge Plugin, can get it from the Skyrim site. As you start adding more mods you'll want to merge the more simple ones, as there is a plugin limit with the game before things start getting wonky or broken.

I was wondering a short time ago related to Fallout NV (or any of the Fallouts for that matter) is it still advised to clean the Masters? Might be useful for @Maskofthesun. I rarely have many mods installed in Fallout (less than 50 or so normally) so I don't have the same issues that I might have in say .... Skyrim (old version) so I never really cleaned my masters in Fallout NV.
