GTX 980 has 4 GB of VRAM, which can do some (emphasis on some) 4k gaming.

Overall, I'd stick to the 980 for 1080p gaming, and get a better Graphics card if you're serious about 4k gaming, like a 1070 or a 1080 (or wait a bit and get a 1080 ti).
