Hey everyone!

Well I think the title speaks for itself. Maybe this question was asked before, in that case sorry for being dumb, and just please lead me to that topic. But anyway I don't really want to restart the game, I would like to keep my progression. So I'd like to switch race mid-game, but as far as I know, it's not safe. Changing the face only or hairstyle is fine (still safer to use "showplasticsurgeonmenu" and "showbarbermenu" for that), but changing gender/race, pretty much messes up your S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats, perks and everything.

Back then ("Oblivion times"), there was a trick. At least that's how I remember. It was something like, make your change, but don't click done. Bring up console instead, bring up game menu afterwards, save game, and load game. Or something like that. But I heard it's not that safe anymore, at least not in New Vegas. If anyone has some suggestions, I'd be glad to hear it.

You can use showracemenu, which should not screw up any of your S.P.E.C.I.A.L, skills, or perks. But save your game before just in case I'm wrong.

I've tried it before, and believe me it DOES/MIGHT screw up a few things. It's just not "visible". If you look at your stats menu on your Pip-boy, everything seems fine. All of your perks are there, but actually some of them becomes "deactivated". I don't know what would be the right word for it, some of them simply doesn't work anymore. That's what "showracemenu" does. It's not a new thing, it was pretty much the same way in Oblivion (however that was before the introduction of perks, so it was noticable, all of your stats were lowered to 15-20), it was in FO3, every Bethesda games really. Changing face is okay, but changing race/gender is another thing. Thank you for the answer, I appreciate it, but I just simply know "showracemenu" MAY cause problems. Maybe it won't if you're lucky, but there's a pretty high chance it will. I just simply can't risk it. (Almost a hundred hours of gameplay in this save). I could backup my save and keep trying, but as I said problems are not noticable first, you'll only realize them later. Probably after a few hours, so it's kinda pointless to do it this way.

Using the showracemenu is safe up to the first few levels, after that you'll likely lose any perks you obtained.

@"beardofsocrates" Yeah I'm aware of that mod. Believe me, I only started this topic after a lot of searching. Problem is, players are still reporting missing perks, even with this mod. Anyway it seems like it's the closest thing I can get. I still can't find any other way.
