Alright guys and gals, I am curious. How do you all go about starting your New Vegas experience? Do you ride out the Goodsprings tutorial phase, make a sprint for Vegas, or just ignore main quest all together? I'm really curious to see how other people go about starting their game - pick out any similarities.

Potential spoilers in these next few paragraphs, though I'm sure all of you know the game inside and out. I for one, like to deal with Goodsprings very thoroughly and methodically. Instead of the more straight forward approach, killing Cobb and his gang, so you can get Goodsprings out of the way. I like to take a more Spec Ops style approach. Destroy the Powder Gangers from inside.

I meet Trudy, get the lay of the land from the locals, and start getting more information on Cobb and Ringo's situation. I recruit as much people as I can depending on my skills, and then let Ringo know there's one last thing I'm going to try. I trek over into their territory, usually with poor gear and clothes to arise the least amount of attention.

I offer their leader my services, in hopes that they will at least accept me. Get me to handle more sensitive jobs. I work for him long enough until the opportunity to betray him presents itself. I then hand my gun in for the NCR and participate in the raid of the correctional facility. It's usually a success.

Now Cobbs' friends are dead and his home is destroyed. I can now proceed in dispatching him and his little crew from Goodsprings. It may be a bit tedious, but it's an approach I prefer because it allows me to be better equipped to deal with the squirrels up in the Bison Steve.

How about you all? Please, don't hold back. I love reading.

Considering that you can't sprint without the mod, each step IS a baby step.

Sarcasm cleared from my throat along with the stuff from last week's cold, what I did on my first character was fumble around, because for some reason I couldn't take Fallout seriously (I still don't to a minor extent). The quests weren't exactly organized and therefore it was hard to tell what I was doing for who, and also questing in search of why I should care. Not running was a colossal pain in the ass; had it not been for the mod I might've stopped playing indefinitely.

After the ASMR video that is Doc Mitchell, and the little showdown gag, I did hoof it all out to Vegas (prior to the installation of sprinting), where I made my first traumatic encounter with both Cazadores and Deathclaws (who, surprisingly enough, died easily despite my low level [3-4]). Once I arrived I was pretty aggravated that I couldn't access the city, so then I started doing grunt work for the King; during which I bonded with Rex (whom I definitely saved and keep at my side constantly). I got into Vegas eventually, and began trial-and-error gambling, with mixed results. Later there was a completely anti-climactic confrontation with the guy who capped me in the brain, and without any sort of official or listed set of questlines, it made it difficult to gauge if I actually completed the main story.

Still, that was my first experience. If I make a second character (which I'll definitely put in Clone Ultima armor when I get promoted), then my experience will be different; now that I have a better understanding of the game.

Similar to MacCraw I tried heading straight to Vegas the first time I played. Though unlike him I got killed by the Cazadors, and on the rare chance I got past them I got killed by the Deathclaws. So since then I've pretty much just always followed the main quest line to New Vegas, 'cause I feel weird just going there right off the bat and bypassing actually finding out that Benny is there. I also like to do the tutorial mission 'cause it gives some extra XP and Caps which is always nice.

I love it! The walking can get obnoxious, I agree. I usually have my own music playing really low in the background so it makes some walks bearable. But I do agree sprinting is a game changer.

So you take the Northern approach eh? Man I feel like a lame duck. The first time I tried a sprint or Vegas I took those signs literallly, so I just popped a stealth boy and run up I-15, quicksaving every 5 feet.

I can totally appreciate that style. Best of luck on your promotion man. I'm the same way with my armors. Voodoo's armor from dragbody's public release two is a staple armor for me. Anyways, I appreciate the reply.

I suppose that way is more popular than I originally thought. I've always been curious about it. One of my favorite youtubers, xcalizorz, did that same thing on his most recent New Vegas run. Ever since then I've given it some thought, but I always find myself taking the long way. Time to break the mold I suppose.

I appreciate the reply as always. It's always cool to see how other people start.
