Improving Melee Empty
PostSubject: Improving Melee   Improving Melee EmptyFri Oct 25, 2019 4:51 am

So I'm much more of a gun nut when it comes to FNV. In the previous games, since they weren't FPS style, it felt like melee was a very viable option as I ran up and clobbered all the gun-toting bandits who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a scope and laser sight to assist them. However, I never felt like it was very useful or very interesting to play melee oriented in any of the newer Fallout games. Even in Skyrim, a fantasy game where sword and board should have been one of the most rewarding experiences, the combat felt very basic and dull. However, Skyrim had the advantage of modders doing everything they could to overhaul that system by: adding dodging, parry and riposte, and even a decent lock-on system.

I'm just curious, what sorts of things do you think would really spice up melee in a game like Fallout? Something/s that would make a gun nut like me interested in trying it out?

There is an interesting mod called Melee Cleave (a.k.a. Sweep) by yummy2. This mod allows you to hit multiple ennemies with a single melee attack, like in the Outer Worlds. This is the only mod which improves melee combat that I know. But it's a good one.

This is something I've been interested in too. Unfortunately, I have yet to find anything that really makes a major impact. Unarmed And Melee Revolution by PsychorGames on the nexus was the only thing I really found. It adds perks and abilities that can help make melee a little more viable to use, but I don't think there is anything that overhauls the melee system entirely.

Now that's interesting, at least that's some added effectiveness to melee combat to make it feel less dry and basic. I know a lot of people really love melee oriented characters, but because it seems to have less intricacies than ranged combat (at least as it stands), it doesn't feel like it's potential has been fully tapped into. More mods like this would help flesh it out more.
