So hey, how y'all doin'?
I'm trying to install the GECK for Fallout 3, but at the beginning it always gives me this message:

Component: DefaultComponent
File:
Error: Zugriff verweigert


Zugriff verweigert = German for "Access denied"
Anyone know how to fix this?

Some other stuff:
I have the austrian CD version of the Game of the Year Edition.
I got it form here: http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php?title=Main_Page
I tried to run it as an administrator.
I had no problem installing it before.
I set the compatibility mode to "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)"

It sounds like it could be a User Access issue. Where is the game installed on your computer?

Also, do you have a d3d9.dll in the folder (from ENB or SweetFX)? If so, that has been known to cause problems with running the GECK.

The game is installed at C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3
I don't have any kind of ENB or SweetFX installed, so I don't have a d3d9.dll.

Well it could have something to do with being installed in Program Files. I've read that it's typically best to install it directly on the C drive to avoid any access issues. Unfortunately, I don't think administrator mode necessarily bypasses all of those issues.

From what I've read it tends to be solved by running the installer in administrator mode and/or having it installed on the base of the C drive. I'm not sure if you've already tried running the installer in admin mode but I hope this helps.

EDIT: Just found this forum thread that I thought might be helpful.

No problem. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

What I would suggest doing is installing FO3 to C:\Games\Fallout3. Doing so bypasses UAE and \Program Files / \Program Files (x86) restrictions.

If that doesn't work then there are other system issues to deal with.

Sadly, that didn't work. What "other system issues" are you talking about?

When Fallout 3 is installed into \Games\Fallout3, can you play the game without issue (other than the normal issues associated with FO3)?

Yes, I can. Fallout 3 has always been pretty stable for me.

From what I understand, you have the German CD, per se, of Fallout 3. I've installed over two hundred Fallout 3 in various languages or have assisted others to install Fallout 3 under Steam without fail.

Where did you purchase Fallout 3 from? Do you have a retail copy, Steam copy or is it an ISO from an (possibly) unknown source?

Please understand that I am not accusing you of anything illegal. I'm only trying to narrow down the possibilities from experience. There may be instances I haven't encountered or read about. There also may be instances where there are other system issues you are not aware of.

As far as I know, the game was purchased at a local supermarket, so it's a retail copy (if I understand the term correctly). No Steam involved.
Also I don't know what ISO means.

Make sure you have the last update for FO3, and get the corresponding GECK for that. Also might help to use the FOSE loader by adding a shortcut to that .exe, and adding "editor" (with quotes) to the end of the 'Target:' section of the shortcut properties so the GECK loads using FOSE, assuming things go correctly. Depending on what OS you're using, be sure to run as administrator to get the program running to allow you to access the files etc.

If still not working, then you may need to find a way to disable UAC, which is risky but allows for you to access any program without Windows annoying you every time...
