PostSubject: Has anyone started modding fallout 4?    Thu Nov 12, 2015 3:34 pm

Hey everyone. Hope you're enjoying fallout 4 as much as I am. So there are a few mods I want to try out on the nexus, but I was wondering if anyone has set up a mod manager with the game yet? I used FOMM with newvegas and 3, but I don't see any new info indicating that their will be a FOMM for 4. Has anyone set it up using mod organizer and loot yet without any issues? Is there any difference between setting up MO with fallout 4 and skyrim? Any additional info or things I should download, or is it just the same process? I'm guessing it is, but wanted to make sure. Thanks guys. I mainly wanted to see where everyone else was at with it on here and ask these questions for anyone else who was curious. Smile. Thanks for reading.

Fallout 4 uses a new system, tied in their their new b2a format. The game launcher lacks a "data" tab, though who's to say it won't be added once the geck drops, but until then you can assume mods will be done internally via Bethesda Net until someone figures out the new system and creates a mod manager for it. The current mod managers won't cut it because of the new format, just fyi.
Also nothing exists yet as far as Fallout modding goes, not at least anything serious until late Jan/early Feb next year, when the geck drops.

So the current mod managers won't work for it and have to wait for an update of sorts? There are several retexture mods on nexus, like retextured blood, eyes, nightsky that I wanted to install, but prefer a mod manager for fallout as opposed to installing manually. So I guess manual install is just going to have to cut it for now. I appreciate the reply.

Generally speaking manually is the way to go when installing texture mods anyway, at least it's easier to see what's overwriting what e.c.t. Mod Organizer is actually great for textures.
As for Fallout 4, I would wait for the mod managers to update for a makeshift patch, but keep looking into it! I know there's mods out there atm but personally I'm not going to bother with them until the Geck comes out and the official installation method is revealed

EDIT: I did come across two "mod organizers," :

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/495/

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/487/

I think I used "eyes of beauty" on the day it came out as my first mod for F4. Since then, I have a few, but most of them retexture files, with one bat file (Brotherhood console command spawn), and a reShader file.

Ever since Fallout 3, I immediately start modding Bethesda's stuff after it releases-though back then it was just include the overwrite file in the correct folder (my fallout 3 mod was darker leather armor retexture). The retexture mods are the ones you will see the most and are pretty easy to use. You stick the files in the data folder and then edit the fallout.ini in your "my documents" folder. Scroll down to [Archive], and after the line that says "sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\"  add in ",\TEXTURES"

There is a new extractor up on the nexus and I've been using the power armor mod that reduced the drain significantly. There's also a mod via cheat engine that freezes the settlement size as you're building so it doesn't max out and prevent you from building more.

There's also a mod that spawns BOS teams to support you or guard a spot.

For loading esp's you just have to modify the appdata file.

If you are looking for those epic mods like New Vegas and fallout 3 had, you are probably gonna have to wait till after Christmas or later because the game is still brand new. I'm still hoping someone would put in modern weapons in since i'm not a fan in much of the weapons in the game so far. So far what is on the nexus site is all we got.

I've added 3 mods. Easier Lockpicking, Easier Hacking, and a Survival Mod. The First two is simple. If you have the perk, it basically auto lock picks by pressing A, or was it W. For Hacking if you have the perk it just shows one word. For the Survival I just removed the double damage on me, and half damage on enemies. Simple stuff, nothing too intrusive. I may also get the Russian mod that alters the UI of dialogue.

Just made another pass through Nexus and am finding some awesome retexture work. Military fatigues, Spike Armor, Quieter generator and turrets, etc. Just yesterday when I checked, there were 36 pages when I use latest files, now its up to 54.

Can't wait to for the GECK to come out and modding goes full swing!

@gabet347 There's also a multitude of mod managers, haven't used one yet and installing mods is pretty easy so far.

@"delta6020" I agree, I've never been a huge fan of the "lore friendly" stuff. To each their own, and I think it's cool that people like to root themselves in the lore, but personally I really enjoy a good AR or new .50 sniper, and other armors and stuff.
I've only added the easier hacking but like some others have mentioned, there is actually a TON of stuff on nexus. So far, the manual add has been simple and straight forward.

Just checked and the page count has gone from 54, to 61 today.

pretty much just a couple texture mods atm, found a decent one that removes the rust from the T-60 variants, one that darkens the brotherhood uniform, and using the Eyes of beauty for the heck of it. the only gameplay changing mod I installed was one that removed fusion core drain, I know it's more or less cheating but I can't bother myself to go scavenging or waste caps on them

@Evmeister I saw the mod managers. I'm glad people are so quick to get them out there. For now, I'm just gonna stick to manual mod management though. I've gotten a couple installed including:

Unlimited Settlement Size (no cheat engine)

Lowered Weapon Animation

These have been great. Lowered weapon animation lowers your weapon when you're not shooting. Great mod for immersive purposes, but when you're shooting on and off the weapon switches quickly between lowered and shooting. Kind of annoying.
Unlimited settlement one is for sure recommended. No cheat engine required, just a console command.

I'm looking at some other mods to install now, including:
Black pip boy

Black assault mask

black spike armor

Rextextured stars

More Armor slots

I suggest checking out this one as well. Darker Pipe Rifle

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/742

It alters the texture of all of the pipe weapons.

Do you know if the Unlimited Settlement Size mod disables trophies (Because you have to use CC)? I'm kinda paranoid for that kind of things TongueTril

I feel a little silly but I've been trying to edit armor textures and I just don't know how to extract them and what to edit them with. I used B.A.E to extract the dds files, but there are like 3 for each armor and I can't even open them. I guess I'll leave modding to the pros

@mindstormer,
I honestly have no idea. I've still been getting achievements in a general sense, but I'm not sure if there are even specific settlements achievements or if I haven't been getting them.

@jackspacko
I honestly don't know this either lol. I'm still learning myself. I'm certain the more experienced modders here will know.

I haven't touched modding yet. I'd really like to give it a try in FO4 because I have the time to learn. My main interests are armors and weapons as a focus. Weapons usually gets covered by a large group of talented modders. Armors are a little harder to come by if you use body replacers like I do. There's always room for new content. I have no idea what I'm up against, but it doesn't hurt to try.

If that fails, there's always a need for accessories like hats, shades or masks. Definitely waiting on Creation Kit though.
