As many of you aware, Bethesda just recently open the beta for survival. The sad news is you cannot use mods and console commend while opt in beta. Therefore, I tried the new survival mode in new game, and I have to say that not be able to see my current food, drink, and sleep stats is pretty annoying ( I cannot find the meter for all those stats in the stat menu in pip-boy, did I missed it somewhere?). I also think fast travel should be an option rather than forcefully disabled in survival mode. I will be honest, I wished the new update survival mode could at least return to the way how New Vegas did but then I remember the conflict between two companies. Hope they change some features in their real release. What do you guys think about the new update survival mode beta.

I have a strong feeling that they didn't give you many options with the survival mode and hopefully can be fixed in beta. Being able to control the sliders so to speak on how your survival mode is to play out. I wish they would give you more control being able to decide your survival mode instead of having be where you play their survival mode. Just seems like bethesda is gonna crap on themselves with the beta. Hopefully it gets fixed in the actual release.

I agree. I really hope we can custom our own survival mode. For example, enable/disable fast travel, cross-hair, etc. You see the problem here? Bethesda don't know how to offers choice just like what they did to main game.

The effects for cannibalism and drugs are certainly something to look at. Keeping that in mind, I should probably stop eating people haha!

Glad to see Bethesda taking inspiration from Obsidian, though I find a couple of the new additions questionable for the fun factor.

No Fast travel:
If on a fetch quest, that is located on the opposite side of the map, this is very annoying. Especially if you have a planned route. Instead, let fast travel drain resources, such as food, water, or stimpaks depending on the distance. You'll need a lot more mods, or special encounters to make the travel entertaining if you already know the route. Speaking about encounters, how about interrupt fast travel if say, along that path, you came across a behemoth.

Not being able to see food/sleep/water stats:
Really now? What do you want me to do, keep a note book on-hand while playing?

Everything else though sounds right. The new damage system isn't as much of an impairment compared to NV, since the gun play is much smoother.

I just want some damn bars to see how hungry I actually am, tired, sick, ect. The UI system right now sucks so bad I just want to pound my fist. But first more coffee I just woke up, though I stand by my UI comment.

I don't think I'll be trying the survival mode. I've tried it before on FNV and in Skyrim, well, something similar. It seems all my focus was on eating, drinking and sleeping. It sadly was too much to handle and enjoy the game at the same time. I tend to stay away from these things now.

For the console players I really hope they fix everything, but as for the PC players I'm sure someone will make something as they have in the past.

I'd need something that was very flexible and adjustable in order to try something like this again.

I think I'll wait until it's out of beta to try it out. But it doesn't sound very appealing atm, no indication for hunger and thirst doesn't make any sense to me.
Sure the experience should be more "hardcore" but in rl I feel when I'm hungry or thirsty, the only way to have an ingame equivalent is through some kind of feedback aswell, preferable visual.
I don't get the point of it not being implemented.
And as some have mentioned, no fast travel might make things a bit too timeconsuming, although generally speaking I like it more that way. Would be nice though if they implemented a fast travel system like in morrowind so that you aren't forced to roam the map while on fetch quests. Maybe using the already present caravan routes?
Anyway I think a "proper" and enjoyable survival mode will only be accomplished through mods like it was in basicaly all Beth games before FO4.

I'm really disappointed with this mode , It is going  to need a lot of modding to be enjoyable. Sigh..

Till they make the mode mod-compatible, i won't try it.

Secondly, it seems it's common issue the fact the hud doesnt show the stats. -2 points only for that.
While the very hardcore additions are good, i believe they should make them toggle-able. No fast travel? Ok
Not being able to save whenever you want? Funk, no. It's a bugged game, random shit happens, and if you can't autosave when u feel the need, it's defintly bad.

@Niar26 Why are you the first one speaking about the save system ? Damn that's the first thing that made me say "Fuck no", even more since automatron (After the last quest I can't leave the building without the game crashing).

For the rest, I did not try it first hand since I like using mods but from what has been said here, not being able to know when you have to eat sleep and drink is some what disconcerting. Well I'll see once the mode is openly out.

Guys its a beta, i repeat the word "beta" they want you (us) to test it. That means no mods, as you are testing new game content and bethesda rely on the report beta testers give. If they get a bug report which is caused by mods then something will go wrong when they try to fix it

1. No fast travel: Totally fine, its survival, its supposed to be difficult and realistic
2. hud dosent show stats: yea that should be fixed, in real life you feel thristy and hungry, but you cant feel your in game character
3. So many requesting toggles to adjust the diffiulty in survival mode, well then its not survival mod anymore then is it?
4. cant save when you want? rather neutral on that one

5. Mods will fix this and this and this, gooooood im so tired of hearing this, It is a BETA !

I like the auto save system because saving before a battle destroys the tension but it should be optional.

Yeah, i meant the ability to toggle some options. I believe, the toggle-able optiopns should be:


Show/hide Primary Needs
Enable/Disable Fast Travel
Default Save System/ Save only when sleeping

Everyone's happy Very Happy

Also, a good workaround, or an addition to the save system, would be the ability to carry Camping items, like sleeping bag, fire, a possible tent. That would really be awesome, and make me use this survival sleeping system.


I'm actually very fine with the disabled fast travel, it "forces" you to explore, and it's a good idea.
But being unable to save whenever i need, i don't know, it's just not right, atleast to me.

The rest, i am very good to go.

sorry my writing on the difficulty matter was poor. what i meant was that if you could toggle on/off certain features in survival mode then it would adjust the difficulty as you would remove a feature.

But this is mostly up to personal preference.

Yeah I def agree with you there. Everyone is treating this like it
Is the final product. How much will Bethesda actually change between this and the final release? Probably not much, but at least they're willing to release it as a beta first. Also, there is already a visible system in place for the new effects. If you are suffering from thirst, hunger, etc. it starts to deplete your max stamina, and icons show up underneath your stamina bar, AND you get an on screen message. So the visible system is there, it's just really really simple. IMO, that's better than having 4 or 5 more bars, or random percentages on the side of screen telling me how F***** my character is, cause I decided to wait until the very last second to eat/drink/sleep. The way it is now, as soon as that icon pops up, I immiadetly take care of it.
As far as the saving system goes, I love it. It reminds me of the old Resident Evil days where you had to make it to a type writer to save. Made the game a lot more challenging, and there's more than enough friggin mattresses and crap in the game to sleep and save.

Console isn't blocked for just beta: it's permanently gone for survival.

Mods were blocked for beta only though.

What?! So no more console after the actual survival update?! If that's true, then that's some pretty fucked-up decision. What happen when we stuck in wall. What if there's bug in quest? Seriously Bethesda? Does that also mean I have to switch my difficulty when I want to take awesome screenshots?
