One of my dreams has always been to be able to watch a good slasher film in a movie theater. Everytimei see a new slasher or horror film that's not going to come out in my country's movie theaters i start to get ansious and angry. I perfectly know that probably only 10% of the kind of movies i like to watch premiere in my country... until 2013 my dream finally came true. I woke up and saw it: You're fucking next in my cities movie theaters!. My expectetion for this movie back on the day where huge, i was 16 years old and had the same passion for this kind of cinema that i have now. Also, i already loved Adam Wingard after sawing his awesome "A horrible way to die" of 2010. So to not make this any longer, i bring you the perfect combination of a good slasher, home invasion and surviving movie: You're Next.
First of all, what makes this movie so awesome? Crossbows! One of the psycho killers has a crossbow. If i where to kill someone (movie of course
) my weapon of choice would definitely be a crossbow. I don't remember of any slasher movie in wich the psycho killers uses a crossbow as his weapon of choice besides this one and Hush (2016), so if anyone knows about one please let me know.
I can't say that You're next was 2013 best horror movie (i say horror because 80% of people who watch this kind of movies at theaters doesn't know they're watching a slasher rather than an horror movie) but what i can say is that is one of the best movie of this genre, no other than pure slasher combined with home invasion and surviving (HOME INVASION!). All that said, You're Next fulfill every single expectation about his history, staging, music and resolution.
The history is about a family reunion in a huge cottage that is like a perfect place for 3 psycopaths to start a bloodbath with killings, killings and more killings. It's well known that slasher movies lack of originality and You're Next isn't the exception, but everything it does it does it well, and makes slasher films lack of originality to be his greatest virtude.
In case you don't know, Adam wingard is The Boss when it comes to create an atmosphere to make you watch what he wants you to watch, so in You're next he uses his personal signature, wich consist of very fast camera movement to emphasize the sensation of chaos and pursuiut, because one of the highlihgts of this movie is the heavy tension that acompanies you from the very beginning to the end, and doesn't slow down by a chance even when they start to do lots of talking.
Another great thing about You're next is the great soundtrack it has, used in the exact moments to make feel the expectator he's the one inside the house at the dispose of this 3 awesome guys with animal masks.

Craig. Wolf mask = Tom. You have to pay attention in order to know their names, and i got so absorted my the movie that i did
The way that the characters are build is another great thing this movie has (and another of Adam's specials) because when every single one of them is introduced (you don't even have to know them well), you already have an idea of the family the psycho killers want to kill. You can cat a slighlty dark humor in every dialogue, wich is intended to make a movie that is 1000000% entertaining even more entertaining.
I don't tend to spoil anything, but i must say the this 3 killers aren't invincible or traumatized psycophaths like Jason, and their reasons to do what they do in the movie is not fun, evil or because their moms ask them to. Also, this guys may look badass and one of them may also have a crossbow, but they're dumb as fuck (at least two of them). Oh, and the final girl is the true definition of a female rambo while the guys are cowards
Now moving to the killing part. The kills hereare some of the most ruthless and cruels of the genre, you havecrossbow kills (yay!!!), wire trap kills, impaled faces kills, meat tenderizer kills, machete kills, screwdriver kills, more crossbow kills, kife kills, wooden log kill, a fucking head blended with a blender and my favorite... Throat slice with a machete. This may sound simple, but for me it was awesome. First of all, i love throats getting sliced, and second the way this happend was so dope. One of the killers sliced the fuck out of the throat of someone, then another of the bad guys came in and told him "Dude, why did you kill him in front of me?" The killer just took of his headphones and told him "You where talking to me?". Oh my fucking god! For me that was one of the most awesome things i've ever seen in this type of movie. I mean, he looked so badass, careless and with zero remorse or empathy
You're next is and incredible movie of this genre. Besides being entertaining from beginning to end and having a 100% accuracy of dark humor, this awesome movie also combines the topics of slasher, survival and home invasion movies in an outstanding way without making the same mistake of most movies from this genre. For me it's one of the best slasher movies ever made that would become a cult film in the future... and if you have read all of this, you know that i totally recommend it like a must watch for people who love this genre as much as i do.
