In Fallout 4 there are 4 Factions, The Brotherhood of Steel, the Minuteman, the Railroad, and the Institute you can join all of them and there are different endings for each faction you pick. My favorite is The Brotherhood of Steel because there the most like the Galactic empire and there ending is cool and, I don't like helping settlements, synths aren't humans, and I don't like the Institute to much.

I disagree. The Institute is most like the Empire with their white synth armours, Father is pretty much a slightly younger-looking Palpatine and the SS and Kellogg are pretty much the Darth Vader of the Institute.

Anyway, my favourite is Brotherhood because I hate their zealotry but admire their heroism. I truly believe they want what's best for the Commonwealth but the ways they do it are questionable. Plus, I think Maxson is a way better Elder than Lyons. Ad Victoriam.

The Institute. They are the last hope of mankind for the return of civilization, for restoration from the consequences of nuclear war. Yes, sometimes they do or have already done some terrible things, but at the same time they have done a lot of useful and helpful for the wasteland.

I'm against the Brotherhood of Steel, because they want to destroy the institution for no reason, and just can not tolerate the victim of wasteland (mutants) without any good reason for that. They are like fascists and post-nuclear war racists.

I am also against the Commonwealth Minutemen and the Rail Road, because the ideas pursued by them are very doubtful in my opinion and there is no better choice than the Institute.

Yeah I agree the Brotherhood are racists and the Institute is like the Empire, but the Empire hated aliens and only let a select few join them (Like Thrawn) and the Empire is less secretive and more out there like the Brotherhood. I don't think the Minuteman and the Railroad have what it takes to make the commonwealth great again. I also agree that the Institute are arguably the best bet for civilization, they have advanced tech and they are smart. I also agree with Corvo, I like the Brotherhood of Steels' heroism and hate there zealotry.

I like the Brotherhood of Steel as well. They have everything they could ever possible need. Weapons, ammo, power armor, vertibirds, airship, soldiers, engineers, scientists, etc. They have it all. I also like them because Paladin Danse (for the time he was accepted as a brother) was a classic hero who reminded me of buzz lightyear.

My favorite faction in Fallout 4 are The Operators in the Nuka World DLC. (yes, I know the raider factions doesn't contribute to the main story's ending..)

But before them, I really liked The Minutemen.
I think what drawn me to them more than than the other factions was that - they aren't super soldiers, or have a strict agenda. They're just normal folk trying to help other people, and survive in the Commonwealth. The Minutemen has a pretty basic, and generic structure for a faction in a Fallout game. But they appealed to me more.

My favorite faction always will and always be the Brotherhood of Steel. Imo they're prob the coolest faction. Who doesn't love power armor? But I prefer the Lyon Pride BoS though because their cause is noble, but now they're kinda buttholes. But I still love them.

Brotherhood of Steel is easily my favorite faction, and always will be (except Lyons BoS, in that case im an outcast guy) The people of the wasteland can't be trusted to reverse engineer and learn how to rebuild technology. They just take it and use it till it breaks. I do prefer the Fallout NV BoS though.

Institute *cowers* I just like what they have achieved and they probably would have been fine also without me. Brotherhood follows closely by. Just like them both - pretty much equally. Maybe Institute little bit more.

well with sim settlements i actually like to work with the minuitemen and with some other mods these guys can also get an army together and crush the raiders in the wasteland.

I think that there is no good faction in the game. They are all strange. The brotherhood of steel became fascism. Institute, the version of the brotherhood of steel from New Vegas. As for the RailRoad, I can not say anything, because I have never been for them.

People's viewpoint on the factions of Fallout 4 comes largely down to their opinion about who and what is considered a person in the Fallout universe. For example in terms of the Railroad, if you believe synths are not people and are nothing more than the Institute's property, then you could argue that the Railroad is guilty of theft and murder. If you're like me and believe synths are people, then the Railroad is nobly trying to free an enslaved race.

I can never bring myself to side with either the Brotherhood or the Institute because while both have many features I want to like, I can't overlook how blatantly evil both factions are as a whole. The Brotherhood wants to eliminate everything that isn't considered a "perfect human specimen" which includes not only synths, but sentient super mutants and intelligent non-feral ghouls, whom I consider people. My dislike for the Institute stems mainly from their selfishness. They are undoubtedly more advanced than anything we've seen above ground, but they only use their technology to benefit themselves instead of trying to better the lives of people in the Commonwealth.

I agree with you up to the point when you started talking bout' the Brotherhood and Institute. I personally believe that FO4 has done a great job in covering up the sentience of synths, which makes it hard to pick a faction. I think all factions' causes are noble, although they all are noble for different reasons. The BoS are noble for their heroism and bravery, the Institute for wanting to progress Mankind into a new successful era of technology and science, the Railroad are noble because they free slaves and the Minutemen are noble because they protect vulnerable people from harm.

All factions in FO4 could work peacefully together, but because of their arrogance they choose not to. The Institute eliminated the CPG, the Brotherhood can eliminate the Railroad for zero to no reason and they all can take out the Institute because they are scared of it, even though they haven't actually seen it before. However, I can see all their views on synths are justified. The Brotherhood are correct in saying that synths could bring the end of mankind, the Institute don't have enough proof to call their creations people and the Railroad think they are sentient because they act, feel and think like a human.

The Brotherhood do not kill innocent non-feral ghouls because they do not shoot Hancock or Charon on sight like they do Danse. They kill Super Mutants because nearly every super mutant is infected with FEV and was a part of the Master's Army and in Fallout 4 a creation of the Institute. The only few good super mutants like Fawkes and Virgil are hard to come by. Most of the Brotherhood can be perceived as racist, but if synths aren't actually people, then they aren't racist. Although if synths are people, then the BoS are genocidal. The Institute aren't selfish as much as they are paranoid of getting destroyed by the Commonwealth or getting one up'd by them. Shaun only let you in because you're his Dad, and look what you can do in the game to betray them. They let one person in and they end up getting raided by the Commonwealth's factions, destroyed and it's population killed or exposed the harshness of the wasteland they were attempting to avoid.

All in all, I think Fallout 4 should of had an ending where you could unite all the factions with the Institute as the Scientists (having stopped production of synths), the BoS as the military, the Minutemen as the police force and the Railroad as a sort of civil rights movement or at least have an ending where the BoS and Institute team up seeing their morals are so alike but of course, the game wouldn't be any fun then as the Institute isn't getting destroyed.

tl;dr version: None of them are the bad guys, they're all arrogant but it's justified.

Damn, that's a tough question.

I like the Brotherhood as a rule in nearly every fallout and the more morally questionable frankly, the better they are in a story sense. That said, I'm a big fan of the institute. Just the idea of this secret, reclusive organisation operating from the shadows and pulling strings all across the post the post war commonwealth was absolutely perfect, particularly when considering the set up from Fallout 3. While they could have been a bit better, I loved the mystique about them. Didn't much care for the minutemen. The whole idea felt a little too contrived for me. "Hey, you need to help us rebuild and be our savior!" Nah, they were a bland group imo.
I honestly like that there is no "satisfying ending". Your dealing with a post apocalyptic world as a character from the past with no experience of it or it's politics. It's about making a compromise, like which are you most comfortable of living with, or which is most in line with your morals. Too many games make you an omnipotent savior able to mow down everything and save the day. It's nice to be faced with a choice where you as a player don't just get your way and are forced to make a compromise. There is no purely good choice... there is no purely evil choice. There is a choice between morality, progressive, independence and conservatism and no side is truly restricted to any one of these. It's not them who are going to bend to your will; you have to meld with their vision for the world.

@Corvo That is a great explanation, all sides have good intentions but there all to arrogant to see each other as good and understand there intentions, but some of the ways they do it can be seen as evil but are all done for the good of mankind, I would also like an ending where all the sides form a alliance and make a stable civilization, I think it would be cool to go "Hey, we all want the best for the commonwealth so lets make an alliance".

Its a tough call, but in the end I like the Institute.

Now, I know the Institute has its flaws, such as the kidnappings. But this is a world where Law and Order has broken down, the lines between good and evil blur, and sometimes a heavy hand is needed to ensure security. On top of this, the Institutes experimentation with FEV can also be called evil, but I contest that FEV, with all its failures, still holds several characteristics that science can explore. While dangerous, dangerous knowledge is still knowledge and therefore useful.

The Institute, while remaining underground, also has the best chance of securing mankinds place in the future. They are safe from the horrors of the wastes, such as Deathclaws and Super Mutants. These two species alone are a clear and present danger to the future of humanity, and as you know(If you played the original Fallout) The Master nearly used the Super Mutants to achieve this goal. Mankind, living in a sustainable and clean environment underground, can be guaranteed a future.

I acknowledge that an argument can be made against the Institute, in regards to the treatment of Synths. However, Synths can be dangerous. If they are rogue, they can be unpredictable, and can be assumed to be stronger than the average human. This threat must be managed, and kept under Institute control. An ample example for this is Gabriel, the escaped Synth, who after being mind wiped by the railroad, took over a raider gang and plundered the people of the Commonwealth. This is proof as to why Institute technology must be safely managed and controlled. Humanity must and will advance, but the fact that the Institute does try to carefully manage their technology, and even technology outside (Such as the Prototype Laser Weapon in University Point that could have allowed mass killing with advanced weaponry)is important to note.

Finally, you as leader of the Institute, choose the direction it will take in the future. You choose whether or not it will continue to replace people. You choose what direction Institute research will take, you choose everything. The future for the Institute looks bright as you are the one leading it, and can use all its technology to help the people of the wasteland. You can lead the Commonwealth into an age of prosperity, peace and enlightenment.

Thats why my favourite Fallout 4 faction is the Institute, i'd like to hear your opinions on it.

I don't know man I enjoyed playing most of the factions that the game provided with and I do prefer solo either way. Honestly I like the institute just due to the sheer power and tech advancement they have in the waste last. They have a great goal to get to just their actions aren't always the best. I don't really have an essay but I would prefer to go with the institute if I had to because I like how they are designed and all the tech they've created.
