PostSubject: What's your favorite Fallout Faction?   Tue Oct 03, 2017 1:52 am

Thought I would do a new post since I have been for the most part inactive for the past week or so. I decided I would try to spark a conversation about Fallout factions, as long as they are official factions from official games. That means the Terran Starship Command is not allowed but the BOS of Brotherhood Tactics is.

So anyways to start, after looking back on the Fallout games I decided that I found the Enclave to be my favorite faction in the Fallout franchise.

This is because of just how interesting the faction is and how through time the Enclave's visions and ideals have been twisted and reshaped into what we saw in the Capital Wasteland in 2277. They went from who I personally thought and saw as monsters enslaving and killing everyone to a faction that had some moral standards. You could argue that the Enclave was headed by an "evil robot" and was going to poison everyone. Yes this is true but when when you are captured and taken to Raven Rock in Fallout 3 the president gives all troops orders not to shoot you but as soon as Colonel Autumn gives the order to shoot you all the soldiers are fine with disobeying a direct order from the president. Not to mention Autumn had Edens self district codes.

Secondly, their technology is better then any other faction (except the Zetans) and looks extremely intimidating and cool. They have access to the best of the pre-war world and have the ability to develop new armors and weapons lost to the bombs. They also make use of the most advanced tactics in the known world (at least in cannon) making the Enclave while small extremely powerful (at least in cannon).

That's really about it for me. But whats your favorite official Fallout Faction?

For me, it's the NCR. It hasn't always been that way but I truly believe the New California Republic has everything correct to put America back where it belongs. It has its flaws like corrupt leadership, and bureaucrats who care only about money but I truly believe even without the Courier's help, it will win the NCR-Legion War, and all it has to do is wait. NCR may not take the whole continent, but it's gonna take the whole west, I truly believe that. They have superior technology, factories to produce weapons, armor, and supplies, the idea of democracy, troops numbering in the hundred thousands, and good intentions. They are the only faction besides the Followers who have Refugee camps for victims of the War, while their leadership can give two sh*ts about the status of citizens of the Mojave, a good amount of the soldiers do care and while their frontier law is sh*t, their law in the real NCR is effective. They only have a couple of flaws, mainly corrupt leadership, incompetent military leaders, and they are overstretched. Other than that, I believe if they win the war against the Legion, they will be able to secure it, unlike the Legion is already overstretched throughout their territories in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. They won't be able to secure their newly annexed territories and rely on assimilating tribes to get more manpower. The NCR may never take the whole Continental United States, but they'll be able to take most of the west and part of the Midwest. They are the only faction that has a real chance at stability for its citizens and for its residents.

@TheRatDragon The NCR where once my favorite faction much like the Brotherhood of Steel. Unlike the Brotherhood of Steel the Republic holds noble ideals and manages to enforce them. Though they are like you said not the best faction and have a lot of problems. But they may be the best choice for restoring order and civilization to the wastes at least in the West.

Regarding what you said on the NCR winning the Legion-NCR war. I think Legion victory would of been a likely possibility had the courier not assisted the NCR. If the courier had not become involved the Legion would take control of Southern Colorado river and eventually pushed West to the I-15 NCR border to cut off their main supply line. I wont go into specifics but the NCR presence in and around Searchlight is minimal allowing a lot of space and time for the Legion to gather strength and make plans.

Another problem with the NCR is its lust for expansion, forced occupation, and the conquering of nearby areas. Though the NCR is accepting of independent territories it is only a matter of time before places like Goodsprings and Westside become apart of the NCR. A prefect example is New Vegas as a whole. The slums are being filled with NCR refugees while the Strip because of its Military Police Robots is somewhat safe from NCR occupation though already has an NCR embassy, NCR Police Force, and NCR train service for its troops only.

But really looking at the NCR as a whole it is a cool faction but their incompetence, corruption, and love for conquest is a shame and makes me frown them even though my personal favorite faction the Enclave wouldn't be much different but different in that they get the job done and are much more advanced then the NCR or at least where.

My favorites are the BOS and the Enclave. I would love a fallout game where you played as an ally to the Enclave. I think I like the BOS more though. I think they have the right idea. Take away the dangerous tech and keep it away so history does not repeat itself. Wouldn`t mind a game where you actually played as a BOS soldier and rose through the ranks doing missions and some main quest centered around them. They were always not very focused upon in the past games from fo3 onward. If there was more stuff like Broken Steel where you worked with them more closely, I think that would be awsome.

Caesar's Legion. My only problem with them is that they treat women as commodities and rape them, wich is something that sucks and i try to ignore (most of the time tho. when i visit the fort for the first time and spoke to Otho, i got really pissed of when he said that women are not allow to fight in the arena and then just wiped out the entire camp by myself. then, when i was speaking to caesar i hit the "i'm done working for you" dialogue by accident and he just start talking me like if i was some pile of garbage, so i killed him right there closed eyes smile), but besides that i love them.

My first encounter with the legion was just awesome. An entire town burned and lots of people crucified because this weird guy with a creepy voice and some sort of animal hat (Vulpes) thought they where "degenerates". I liked him instantly, so i had no trouble spreading what the legion just done in Nipton. So first of all, why legion and not NCR? NCR sucks in my opinion, they have lots of propaganda like "Join us now and stand under the NCR flag" or "NCR is your friend and fights for your freedom". What that really means is "you will join us or you will be consider an enemy and we will headshot u". Other factions like the Great Khans have tell about the atrocities the legion has done. They just want power and the mojave, like some sort of empire. At least Caesar's Legion admit that they want the same thing without hiding it with bureaucratic stuff. Being such badassess is what keeps legion's territory safe. NCR have lots of soldiers everywhere, but they do really suck and are poorly trained and have a serious lack of motivation (mcarran's camp cook for example, that guy is always complaining that he doesn't have good food for the soldires and that hey have no motivation at all... dude, food really? closed eyes smile) I like that the legion takes care of their own and doesn't play around. I mean, caravan merchants for example, NCR is more like "mess with us and we'll arrest you and send you to jail" lol. Legion on the other hand is more like " Mess with us and we will crucified you and sell your children and wife into slavery. You just don't fuck with them.

Now the slavery thing.  Sure, it is something wrong, but i think it's something necessary (personal opinion, p-e-r-s-o-n-a-l-o-p-i-n-i-o-n, okay?. Slavery gives the legion free labor, but most important, slavery is very good for negotiating. When the legion conquers your territory, you have the option of giving your children to become slaves or soldiers. I think that everyone would pick the second choice, making the legion's army grow a lot.   I don't whant anyone to think that i support slavery for real. I do support slavery, but just int the fallout fictional universe TongueTril. NCR wants to build the old world again. Let me make an example: it's like if society had reached level 25, but then war came and send it back to level 1. NCR wants to build it again to level 5 and thats it. The Legion knows that the world has to build his way up form the bottom. Yeah, the may seem like evil mf, but in my opinion they are what the mojave really needs. NCR is just useless and corrupt. I do see what Caesar is trying to do, and i like it. The only problem is that are very few people who share his same point of view. For example, Lanius, who is my favorite characte of the whole game because he's a killing machine, pretty much like a mojave psycho killer... but he's dumb, so if caesar dies and lanius takes over he would just slaughter everyone for fun, and that is something i don't approve. It's better to have him killing the heck out of everyone, but under the orders of a smart guy like caesar.

So

Legion = Awesome killing machines!

NCR = Corrupt gov run by sharecroppers

Yes Man = He's just creepy for me, i know that i can take over all the mojave if i side with him, but i just don't like him (yeah, i do know he's a robot closed eyes smile)

Mr. House = Just a mummy

Followers of the apocalypse = Way to boring

Brotherhood of Steel = Wtf is wrong with them seriously, In fallout 1 and 2 the wher like isolated technology assholes, and then in fallout 3 they just turned to some kind of saviors and saved the day with a big robot, the total opposite of what they're supposed to be. I was so happy when caesar asked me to kill them all, i just can't stand them since fallout 3. And in fo4 i joined the institute as soon as i knew that the brotherhood didn't like them and then blew there stupid airship closed eyes smile

And the fact that  i am a girl and knowing that caesar could force me into a life of slavery doesn't worry me at all because after winning the Hoover Dam battle caesar should know that i could kill him and lanius if i wanted to.

Other random facts that makes me like the legion:

Legate Lanius, he is just super awesome to me.

Caesar is hilarious "Take this fucking platinum chip "Relax, i'm fucking with you". I laughed so hard the first time i heared thos lines closed eyes smile.

Anthony, because he seems to love dogs as much as i do

Vulpes, because he is so damn weird and creepy.

Centurion armor is my favorite armor besides merc adventurer outfit, to bad that there is no a female version of it (or any legion armor at all).

They prefer using melee weapons, just like me.

@Banewrath I used to like the BOS as you help them in Fallout 3 during the events of Broken Steel but their bigotry towards mutated lifeforms is at times disgusting to me. I understand that abominations like super mutants, centaurs, and feral ghouls need to be destroyed but their hate towards normal ghouls is not acceptable at least to me.

Considering the BOS is broken up into different chapters with different ideologies that at times conflict, problems can arise between two powerful chapters of BOS. For example the Capital Wasteland BOS under the command of Elder Lyons had ideologies that went against those of the other BOS chapters even though Elder Lyons just wanted to help the Wasteland using the tech they had recovered. Only because the Lyons chapter was so far away from the rest of the other BOS chapters conflict could be avoided but what if they were not so far away? A civil war could ravage the BOS and leave them in disarray fighting each other.

Lastly since the BOS are broken into different chapters their ways of completing their goal of recovering and preserving technology is different. A perfect example would be that while the Maxson chapter of BOS in most cases would not just rob peaceful people for their technology the Mojave chapter of the BOS will. This can be seen when you enter the BOS bunker is FNV without the codes or Vironica. They will arrest you and take all your equipment (at least during my playthrough). They are also said to be robbing caravans in a possible ending slide for the final ending regarding the fate of the BOS.

For all these reasons I find myself unable to support a faction like that with conflicting ideologies, ideals, and the every present threat of conflict between the different chapters.

@Torsorapgirl That's cool I don't really see many people supporting Caesar's Legion. Personally I feel I cannot support a faction that relays heavily on slavery to keep their faction running.

Secondly because they do not support the use of modern medicine and tech as technology is seen as "unreliable" and is only used because it is a necessary requirement to stay competitive against the NCR.

Lastly because Caesar himself is full of shit. Caesar sees himself as a "god-ruler" as he introduced gun powder and maintained ballistic weapons for the tribes and making them think he is a god. Secondly while he is a against the use of technology, he wants to take over New Vegas and the Dam to make New Vegas his true capital. To finish while other in the legion are not allowed the privilege of modern medicine, Caesar is and if you follow the main story for Caesars Legion he requires you to repair an auto doc that will help fix his condition. For someone who is against the dependency of technology and use of modern medicine he seems awfully lenient to those rules when it applies to himself.

Because of all these reasons I cannot see myself supporting Caesars Legion and their ideals especially when the one enforcing them does not follow them himself.

@mixtape69 haha the Republic of Dave, good times murdering them all making friends with the republic.

The Khans man, especially now that they've been perfectly realised as the badass bikers they are by Dragbody. They look awesome, and they're survivors. The NCR may be the creators of a new America, but the Khans are the true inheritors of the apocalyptic wasteland. I dunno, I just think it's cool that, despite the player wiping them out in both Fallout and Fallout 2, there they are again in Fallout New Vegas, except now they've actually been written with some nuance and depth beyond, "We are the evil raiders out to f*ck sh*t up!"

It's cool seeing villains given depth. While I've raved about them being a badass warrior tribe with a cool history, I love all the background details hinting at their humanity and sometimes downright rotten lifestyles. These are a people suffering from drug and alcohol abuse (a symptom possibly stemming from post-traumatic stress disorder after Bitter Springs). I like how you can meet someone like Bitter-Root in First Recon who remembers his life with the Khans being godawful, but then you have men like Manny Vargas who remembers his time with the Khans fondly. The point is, in New Vegas, we meet the Khans at their lowest point, and with that, a lot of depth is given to characters who could've otherwise have just been cookie-cut-out characters.

@MrEggs0925 oh, i can understand the slavery part, most of the people do not support him because they don't agree with it, buy you also need to understand that the only major place thatt new vegas shows about the legion is the fort. The Fort is a military place, not a normal settled town of them. I'm pretty sure there's a difference between the fort and a legion town full of civilians. Sucks that obsidian had to cut all things they had planned for the legion just because they didn't had enough time Sad Tho i really think Caesar is kind of an asshole, i like him because he is really smart and has a lot of charisma (funny as hell xd). He talks about how the world needs to be united and need to create a new culture instead of returning to an old one.Caesar also understand history very good so i think he knows for sure that he can't be the leader of some s savages. This explains what you say about Caesar wanting to take over new vegas. He wants it to build a culture that will unite people. Just a culture with a single language and goal. Other thing i like about him is that he really cares and protect his people, you found out about this by talking to people throughout the mojave. Lots of merchants and even Cass says that legion territory is very safe. I am not trying to sway you to like him or anything closed eyes smile, that's just me.

Now, Caesar is definitely not against using technology or medicine when necessary. I mean, legionaries use advanced weapons and stuff. Caesar is against overreliance on technology and medicine and thinks that people need to learn how to live in a sustaintably way again, wich means using the land as much as possible. This is why the legion apply this doctrine in a rough way.

One more thing that i forgot to say, it may be true that the legion disrespect women and all that, but Caesar, Lucius (i think he is the kindest of all legionaries), Vulpes and even Lanius never openly disrespect women. We only see this from assholes like Otho, Luculus and a bunch of brainless legionaries.

@Torsorapgirl There's a couple of problems with the Legion. One, their leader Caesar is dying of a tumor. It is only a matter of time before he dies and after that, the Legion will fall. Just hear me out, trust me. The NCR is a democracy and it's head of state can be killed, but chop off one head and two will grow in its place. Every trooper, every citizen carries the NCR's ideals, ideologies, values, laws, and everything NCR. The Legion is ruled by a man who was a scholar and based his Legion off of Hegelian Dialetics which is why his men see him as a god. He had no issues incorporating tribes into his Legion, and he did it based off of the Romans. However, the Romans assimilated tribes within centuries, and thus felt Roman even if they didn't live in Rome per say. However, in the Legion, everybody still for the most part remembers their tribe and thus there is no unified cultural identity. The Legion is still fairly new, consisting of 87 tribes who besides the kids remember their tribe and were incorporated into the Legion less than 30 years ago. It has only been 3 decades. The Romans were meticulous and careful about assimilation and thus made it centuries and were successful at it. Caesar is the only one in the Legion who embodies that identity and that idea of Hegelian Dialetics but he is like I said the only man. Once he dies, the Legion he sees and is trying to create will die with him. Whereas with the NCR, the unified identity of Democracy, Freedom, and Stability is shared by every citizen and member of the NCR. The Legion is destined to fall just like the Romans and every single totalitarian government before them. The NCR with time permitting of course, will win the NCR-Legion War. All the legion is is a bunch of overdressed, over-glorified, slaving, woman hating raiders. The NCR has clear line of succession. The Legion does not. Yeah, you might say the Legate will take over but there is no successor in the whole Legion who thinks the way of Caesar nor understands the concept of the faction he is clearly in. This is why when Caesar dies, they will splinter off into a bunch of power hungry groups looking only to dominate, kill, and destroy. It will become another Yugoslavian War except between groups instead of countries. The NCR is the only faction that has a real chance at dominating the West and maintaining order and peace within the American Southwest. The Legion by the time of say, 2300 will be gone. And I guarantee you, the NCR will have moved into it's territories in Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, and Utah. Or at the very least, the Legion will have splintered into different groups, mostly tribes looking to regain their identity, Probably a few in Utah, a couple in New Mexico, The Legate will have his own distorted version of the Legion in the eastern part of Arizona, the western part of Arizona will have been annexed by the NCR or at the very least, be in the process of annexation like the Mojave is in 2281, The Hoover Dam will have been secured on both sides, with the NCR taking over the Fort and probably turning it into a military base, moving its troops up there instead of down at the Dam, and there is no word on House and the Strip but I assume it will remain a independent city unless it is attacked by the NCR, the NCR will win, the bots will run out eventually, and yeah. This war between the NCR and Legion can be won just by waiting and doing what they do now, except securing their overstretching borders and their lines.

@TheRatDragon

Okay, but you do realize that fallout nv ends the way you want it to end, right? So in my case i performed the surgery on Caesar myself and saved him. At Hoover Dam i had full speech to convince general Oliver to retreat, but i prefered to slay him right there just for fun. So thats pretty much to me, just kicked the NCR out of the mojave and nothing of what you just said will happend. Yes, the NCR may have a clear line of sucession... but come on, new president, genereal or wathevs is the same or worst than the last one, not caring about their own people and doing anything to get what they want (bittersprings for example). We do not know for sure if there is not anybody that thinks like Caesar in the legion because the game doesn't show it and the legion has a lot of territory so...

and even if Lanius becomes the real badass he would just slaughter the fuck out of everyone who stands in the legion's way and the legion would keep gaining territory. As you may know, he is a great commander and strategist, no just an awesome dumb guy with a giant sword who says awesome things like "we shall see how brave you are when nailed to the walls of Hoover Dam, your body facing west so you may watch your world die". Love it.

Fallout NV is not canon, however realistically speaking, without the courier, The Legion is lost. You need to realize that. it's a lost cause, it won't win. The Legion will never win unless you start doing quests for the Legion and the only quest I do is for the silver chip and punching Benny to death. I don't know if NV is canon or not, it has to be given its a Fallout game, but I believe this is it how it goes canonically speaking, The Strip becomes an Independent Republic under the Courier/Yes Man's Rule while the NCR moves and secures the territory around New Vegas. There is no room for the Legion. The legion is merely a counterbalance to the NCR just like the USSR to the US and Nazi Germany to the United Kingdom. I just hope you realize this, that's all. Without you helping that hypocrite, Caesar would die and with him, his dream empire. But yeah, For the NCR!

I only play fnv and 4 and my favorite in fnv is NCR in FNV, in 4 however, I feel like everyone is kind of selfish (except the minutemen, but everyone know the reason why I hated them).
