now this is not a mod suggestion just something to talk about

ok so i see alot of mods out there that improve the ncr and brotherhoods relations but not many that intensify there hate i mean in my opinion the ncr vs brotherhood makes sence

the ncr want power and control and are scared of anyone thats stronger so instead of trying to form alliances they go straight for the shoot at them option

what do you all think

The BOS would pull of one hell of a last stand but like what happened west of the Mojave Wasteland in California the NCR would simply overrun the BOS with their massive armies. Sad to see that such a great organisation reduced to what it is now.

BOS wouldn't last with their limited numbers, if only they weren't so restricted on their recruitment.

I'm sure we all remember the Alamo, hell that might make a cool idea for a mod. The NCR track down one of the Brotherhoods last bases out in the open and besiege the place. They fight like hell, but it goes as well as Helios one for the same reasons.

BoS simply can't last the way they are in the west, sandwiched between Legion and NCR, two far bigger and faster growing factions. BoS face the exact problem that Enclave had. Being outnumbered. What's worse, unlike the Enclave, BoS doesn't have Vertibird fleets to dominate the enemy from above or transport units and assets over large distances fast.

BoS needs to either find a super weapon to completely dominate their opponents, like the Enclave's missile platform on the orbit. This is the route Elijah tried to take, but he didn't have the time. Or then open up recruitment and help people around them like Lyons' Chapter did in the Capital Wasteland. That would however change them drastically.

What if NCR defeated the Legion and came face to face with Capital Wasteland's BoS chapter?

If the NCR decided to assault the BOS in their bunker within Hidden Valley its no doubt NCR would win. They could just starve the BOS out. Lets not forget that the only reason the BOS can stay in that bunker is because of food runs made by their members so if the NCR blocked off the exit then they'd be in a very bad situation and it'd only be a matter of time before they try to fight their way out or starve to death.

Surely in this case the BoS will fall under their circumstances. Not only are they NOT open for strangers, they're also too naive in not trying to extend their ideals into something better. Like the crops proposal, I mean it was rejected yet it was a really good idea. Imagine being attacked and got driven out. Surely if the survivors know the crop plans from vault 22, surely they have a chance for survival. How naive can they get.

Though if they changed their pace, surely they might have a greater chance for survival. Who knows, maybe a day might come when they come marching back to Helios One with a large group or army of recruited strangers and take the ARCHIMEDES and use it on Camp Forlorn Hope, or Camp McCaren, or better yet Hoover Dam. That would cripple the NCR, a lot!

As said it's only based on the "IF", not that it will happen.

Let's say the Legion, Powder Gangers, Fiends, Enclave/Remnants and any other minor factions (such as the Jackals, etc) are removed from the picture entirely. We'll also remove the Lone Wanderer and Protagonist to prevent a wild card scenario.

Let's also say that BoS combined all their numbers from across the country; likewise for the NCR.

Let's also factor in the technologies each currently have available, per FO:NV time frame:

Laser, Plasma and other Advanced Weaponry:

NCR relies upon Van Graffs to provide laser, plasma and other weapons
BoS has been hoarding advanced weaponry for years

Advantage: BoS though not by too much

Power Armor:

NCR, as per FO:NV, is forced to salvage power armor from wherever they can get it
BoS has been using power armor for years

Advantage: BoS

Transportation:

NCR has been using Vertibirds for years
BoS only obtained Vertibirds in Fallout 3, as my memory recalls (correct me if I'm wrong about this)

Advantage: NCR

Training:

Both NCR and BoS have rigorous combat training of which I believe they are equal

Advantage: Maybe a slight advantage to BoS; otherwise, none

With the above factors considered it would be a very close match which, in my mind, BoS would edge out NCR despite their numbers. There would definitely be heavy losses on each side. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it came down to just a few thousand of each faction left before NCR surrendered to prevent total annihilation of their faction.

In any event, after the end of the war it would be up to the people to rebuild. Which direction the people go is anyone's guess.

To quote Josef Stalin, "Quantity has a quality all its own." I think that the NCR has enough bodies to overwhelm the BoS, regardless of the quality of their weapons and armor. The best power armor in game can be overwhelmed by large amounts of incoming fire, and the analogy holds up when comparing the factions. I also think that the Brotherhood in the Capital Wasteland would hold off the NCR for a lot longer than the western chapters because they have a ready made fortress to hole up in, and significantly more advanced technology; not to mention that the Outcasts and the remnants of the Enclave in the area would certainly trip up the NCR's advance.

Okay. Lets state something here. BOS has perhaps a much larger quanitity in other places, but NCR have a large qauntity whre it counts. The Mojave. Basically, unless your looking out for an entirely new civil war (Bethasda members somthing to think about) NCR will win.
Brotherhood are Hoarders, and NCR are Users.

Totally agreed. But I keep wondering what might have happened if the Legion absorbed the use of power armors, advanced weaponry, and tactical focus... Wouldn't that be a major factor to be considered between the tension of NCR and BoS...?

100 Brotherhood Paladins > 1000 Deathclaws in Fallout 4.
Safe to assume 1000 Brotherhood Paladins > 100,000 NCR troopers.
That's kinda ridiculous lol but yea you get my point.

@"AceGoober" BoS was using Vertibirds since 2242 if you played Fo2 you are ordered to get the Vertibird Plans for BoS so they can assist destroying Navarro and go to other places.
I think NCR got the Vertibird plans too after the NCR and BoS sacked Navarro

I feel like people seem to forget that yes NCR has the numbers advantage, but they're fighting so many fires in new vegas (Fiends, Legion, Families on the Strip). The only reason they took Helios One was because the legion hadn't advanced at the time so they HAD the troops to spare. They don't at the start of FNV (ex: Cotton wood cove, Nipton, Nelson, etc).

That said, Hardin seemed to be the man who wanted to accelerate the Brotherhoods progression out of the lockdown so if he were to take up the role as Elder or McNamara was convinced based on the Brotherhood Scout reports that NCR was weak and this was the best time to take the fight to them while they are spread thin, we could see an epic battle.

One BoS chapter or the whole BoS?

The one BoS Chapter could easily infiltrate Black Mountain Radio Station and attempt to create a longer range frequency calling out for any other Brotherhood Chapters nearby to come aid them. They must've had some special channel or plan for communication once they were suppose to be established in the east.

Well, if we're talking about the Mojave NCR vs the Mojave Brotherhood of Steel, there's really no competition. NCR all the way.

But if we're talking about all troops of the NCR against each and every member of the Brotherhood of Steel, the Brotherhood would most likely win. Though both sides would lose most of their troops, I think.

The NCR has the numbers but the Brotherhood has the equipment so logically it goes to the NCR to win because of numbers, plus if we include the new Power Armor lore the Brotherhood will eventually run out of power for the suits, thus leaving them vulnerable.
