Forum Graphix Competition

Dear VGUNians,
As you see, our current temporary shelter is a bit shabby.

I challenge everyone to come up with buttons, banners or full-out themes to improve the visual aspect of this site.
We don't have the same (expensive) theme choices as the old site but I think we can make due.

For starters we should be looking into replacing these buttons:

Feel free to suggest other changes as well!

If we have more than one submission per item, the best one will be chosen by public poll and the winner will receive a special place in our official site Graphics Team, coming with privileges to the new member group, as well as priority in discussions of future site design.

If you want, feel free to inspire from the old site's colors and buttons and such, or come up with something entirely new. It's up to you!

I can't do all this by myself so come on!

what font did you use for the VGU letters?

we'll wait for the basics to be covered before awarding anybody

alright I found the ME font but it was a bit too thin and wide for the tiny little forum buttons.
I went ahead and forged some preliminary versions

now, subforums and categories have separate entries in the admin panel, so if you want to make new versions, take into account we need 3 Forums icons (old, new, locked) and 3 category icons (old, new, locked)

. Im created 6 sample icons for this but if you dont like use your icons. I maked a bit fast, but i dont have much time weekday so I think is good enough XD

Alright, so I created some icons, but only after i created them did I realize that they would be better suited for main folder icons instead of subfolder icons.

I've tried them out.
I really like the triangle ones, Samatron, but the edges aren't very clean (try putting them over white background for example)
I can clean that up, no problem
the circle versions have 3 marks in the upper corner which really don't look okay.

also, the lower exterior part of the button is a bit too white and wide. the text's lower part is almost disappeared.
I really like the triangle ones, though, those were a good surprise, but the circle ones seem a bit rushed.

@SixPowered: they look great, love the font, but they're waaay too big.
And try to use transparency instead of a black background, like Sammie did.

I've implemented the triangles for announcements since they're like an Attention sign
I might move'em back as categories, but for now they're good for announcements

either make it see-through like the buttons, or something close to the forum's appearance

alright gentlemen, we need a browser bar icon
the current one is this green chat-box

we have alternatives like

(best viewed in firefox or waterfox, chrome distorts them cause they are .ico files )

but I was thinking we can make a custom version of our own Very Happy

what do you think? I think they're 16x16 so not a lot to squeeze into it...

I'll try the VGU one and I hope it tiles well, but I was okay with the initial one too,
especially since to me it's barely noticeable... cheers for finding it, though Wink

EDIT: You were absolutely right, it feels much more like the original VGU
