Fallout 4: Isometric or First person?

Post by rest_in_pepperoni on Fri Jan 23, 2015 8:37 pm

So what would you guys prefer to see in Fallout 4 it's pretty much guaranteed to be in first person but i would like to see your opinion. The way i feel fallout 1 & 2 were more detailed but then it wasn't really a free roam game per se there wasn't really a lot of wandering the wastelands however fallout 3 & NV were much much more immersive and easy to mod for.

My preference is FP/TP, period.  No disrespect to anyone who enjoys isometric stuff, but personally speaking I hate that point of view.  I was originally going to back Wasteland 2 until I saw that it was that kind of game, at which point my interest in it evaporated.

I would have absolutely no interest whatsoever in a new Fallout using that perspective.  I know plenty of people would, but I'm speaking strictly for myself, not others.

Having said that... I have to ask.  How do you figure the first 2 games are more detailed than Fallout 3 or NV?  Or am I reading that wrong?

Fallout 1 and 2 were great games, though the isometric view is much different and more tactical which requires a bit more planning. If you like that kind of game that's totally fine, however, I prefer FP more. It's all about taste. Some people really love the first two fallouts and hate the new ones, but that's their opinion. I like the new ones more, but I still believe the first two are great games.

No your reading it right i just feel the towns all had their own feel and there was more miscellaneous jobs such as becoming a caravan guard and whole lot more but it's just a personal preferance, but tell me why you feel the recent ones are more detailed i'd be interested to hear and don't get me wrong i prefer first person any day.

Oh okay, that makes sense. You mean more detail in the gameplay... I assumed you meant aesthetic/visual detail, that had me scratching my head haha!

FP/TP for me. Isometric will always hold a special place for me, and I love games like Baldur's Gates and the more recent Divinity Original Sin.

But with Fallout, I definitely prefer the FPS/TPS approach.

FPS/TPS hands down. Even though its roots are isometric, the game feels more immersive and just right as an FPS/TPS.

I really like isometric, but Fallout has evolved from turn-based isometric strategy to real-time first/third person in a massive free-roam, immersive environment. To go back from that would be to spit in the face of almost all the current fans.

Not only that, but using a cursor to control an isometric game on a console will not sit well.

That being said, I would welcome in my heart a companion isometric Fallout game to go with Fallout 4, so as to cater for both groups of fans and to generally present themselves better as a publisher/developer.

Fp/Tp is much better for modern fallout games as it's much more immursive IMO. i love explaoring in first person. Looking every nook and cranny of a room looking for items, it makes it much more satisfying when you discover the hidden safe behind the wardobe for example.

FP/TP please. Fallout is one of my favorite games and i would hate to see bethesda take a step backward. All 4 needs is way better vanilla graphics and a larger wasteland.

I honestly don't see games doing isometric at all, anymore. Not AAA releases, at least.

Sure, indie games use it a lot - but they're typically developed on small budgets. And they all seem to want to invoke some sense of nostalgia.

Fallout 3 was the game that brought Fallout to the masses. It's what is familiar to people, now. Especially giving Bethesda's signature First Person/Third person switch views. It's iconic at this point.

Would I play Fallout 4 if it were isometric? Probably. Way down the line when it was on sale on Steam for ~$20. I certainly wouldn't get it at release. First person is just too immersive.

i cant really see the franchise return to it isometric roots. i would like to see a more in depth third person camera though sort of like the gears of war franchise and Re4 that would be nice. on top of that some proper Third person animation would be great as well. As for First person...well that a given fact that that camera will return for FO4

Yeah i agree it makes you wonder how well wasteland 2 might sold if it was in 1st person.

i think that fallout 4 should definitely be fps, and a very smooth flowing fps.

HOWEVER, i think it would be awesome if they released maybe like a spin-off game that is more like the originals, as kind of a nostalgia thing, or as something to hold us over until something is announced

I suppose there is the possibility that we might get something like Fallout HD edition. Over the past few years we have seen HD releases of old titles from Baldur's Gates to Ages of Empire. So a HD re-release is not out of the question.

As for spin-offs, Bethesda has let another dev handle Fallout IP, so it wouldn't be out of the question either.

There were only a couple games that I liked that used isometric. I haven't actually played Fallout or Fallout 2 (don't shoot me!). I don't know if it was technically isometric, but there was one game from my childhood that I played a lot, called "Chaos Island". It vaguely follows the plot of The Lost World, but I never really get bored of it until I beat it...and then I come back in three or four years and play it again.
