I've had a great deal of fun with Fallout 76, even spending most of my time as a solo player. I haven't revisited it since the nerfs to explosives, been distracted with other games, but I still think the game is pretty solid. I've never seen Fallout as a genre, it's a setting like Star Wars or Warhammer to me, so I don't mind that it's not a "traditional" Fallout style game. I'm personally waiting for the private servers to eventually roll out and see if bethesda sets any modding restrictions on them before passing my final verdict, but the current state of the game I still enjoy quite a bit. It's just as fun to play solo as Fallout 4 ever was for me without mods, I didn't care for the main story at all in 4 past my first run. 76 just let me skip the part where I'm disappointed in the main story and get right to the sandbox phase I normally end up doing with every Bethesda game.

My Fallout 76 experience hasn’t been bad by any means. Sure the game has it quirks and can be wonky at times but, it’s fun to play with friends. My problem is that it wasn’t the game I wanted and I think a lot of people can agree. I wanted a “classic” Fallout game. The type where you roam around exploring, talking to NPCs, and engaging with the world while doing quests and stuff. It’s hard to do that in Fallout 76 as there are no NPCs and the story is told through holotapes. Sure, there are “quests” but they are generic. Go here, do that, go back, get reward. It’s just a boring cycle, nothing has depth. It’s difficult to enrich myself into a world where there is no story or people to tell it. The game got boring quite fast. If my friends aren’t on to dick around with me, I’m not gonna pick it up and play. It’s too boring for that.

Also, I hate the micro transactions but what can you do.
