| I never enjoyed the spotlights, and I cringe everytime I read something I post somewhere, especially in such "prominent" places, but as presentations are in order, here I am.
I've been in the modding business for the past 10 years now, always experimenting with different games but ultimately always ending up going back to my "first love", a racing simulation. My virtual CV of sorts is scarce because I go by various names on various platforms and I rarely release any of my work anyway, although in my professional life I work as an interpreter/translator and I'm fluent in at least 5 languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian and German) and have a basic knowledge of at least 3 more (Portuguese, Russian and Japanese) that is good enough to interact with native speakers in case there's a need for it. This has led me to recently join the B2F team (a popular CoD2 mod) as a translator and hopefully, as I'm taking my sweet time with it, my work will become part of their upcoming 1.1 patch. But that's another story.
In regards to the Fallout series, I used to translate for myself some semi-obscure Russian mods that were never translated in the past, and in my free time between my job and my other modding projects, I'm slowly laying the groundwork for some FNV content I may or may not do in the future. Mainly writing as of right now, as my dream would be to bring (back) to life parts of the lore that were never properly explained/shown in any of the games or that were simply mentioned or that were cut from the game entirely. Growing up in the '90s, all I had at the time were JRPGs and CRPGs and that style of storytelling always intrigued me, so my writing style is heavily based on those games and goes deep into details; perhaps more than it should be for "simple" mods.
It's interesting, from a writing point of view, how deep the rabbit hole can potentially go when you're trying to tell a story, especially because thanks to the "notes" mechanic, you don't really need to do much dialogues/voice acting to actually do it, be it because you don't know how (and I have no clue about scripting or placing stuff around in the geck) or because you don't want to. Unmarked quests are the ones I enjoy the most in vanilla FNV, I simply love the way they can expand the lore so much without actually saying a word, metaphorically speaking.
So this is it. Consider me a writer that might bring all those tenths of pages to life in various mods, granted I find the time to learn how script and do that kind of stuff. Until then, I'll keep playing what other quest makers have made in the past, throwing some random screenshots here and there.
Have a good day. |

| Well, from my experience, all the languages that use the cyrillic alphabet share some similarities in the same way Spanish, French, Italian and German are all descendants of the same mothertongue (which is Latin and thus they're considered neo-Latin) or in the same way Portuguese (and to a degree, Brazilian which is a variant of Portuguese by itself) share similarities with Spanish aswell. But there still will be differences and even if you speak Russian it won't be easy to understand something such as Polish for example, unless you actively study and learn it. Sure, for a Russian speaker it will be easier to understand the general meaning of something written and/or spoken, but some things will still be lost in translation.
I plan on properly learning Ukrainian at some point in the future. Would love to plan a trip to the CNPP and actually be able to understand what's written on the signs or the manifests without harassing the tour guide every 5 minutes. I did that once when I went to Greece and it didn't end well. |
