You read it right, Blackout Studios are trying to remaster Republic Commando!

But, I'm expecting Disney to shut it down TBH

I'm expecting a shutdown on this, too. I loved RC, but EA's not gonna let this one fly.

The team made an incredibly stupid decision to reveal it this early, however. Would've been better if they started talking about it nearer the time when it's almost ready.

@Archangel470 Yeah I agree, they should have revealed the game when it's was complete or almost ready, all fanmade Star Wars games should have done that (and do it).

@LightSabersEdge I think they should've gone the KOTOR remastered route and make it a "mod" in that it still requires you to have the original game. KOTOR remastered has been publicly known for at least a year, I think, and hasn't got shut down because it is essentially a mod. Maybe they've just gotten lucky, but I think EA would've shut it down by now. Especially since, they are supposedly making a new Star Wars RPG. It's like with BFIII, Lucasarts/film (I can't remember if Lucasarts is still a thing) They were fine with it being made, but EA wasn't, and since EA have the game rights, they have control over that and not the people at Lucas. But who knows, maybe RC Remastered will get lucky? Hopefully?

Holy crap it looks amazing. I hope they don't shut it down, but knowing Disney they will cause they're piece of craps.

The only reason the KOTOR remaster has still been allowed to continue is not just the fact that they're releasing it as a mod, but they're also rebuilding the game from scratch (i.e making their own assets). That's not the case with this, where they are using assets from the original game. You can definitely see that they're re-using the commando models from the original game, but they look different since they're using Unreal 4 shaders.

As much as I'd love to play this, I don't see this getting far without a C&D.

I'd love to see something like this come to fruition as well. The Star Wars franchise has quite a few old games that are still very much worth playing and would greatly benefit from a face lift.

Just had another look on their Twitter. The way they'll distribute it will be like the KOTOR remake, in which it'll be free, but will require the original game to play.

I hope Disney/Lucas/EA don't rain hell down on this....

if i well recall it, the team working on Battlefront 3 (the original build before EA dumped it in favour of its current one) wasn't shut down was it?

@Archangel470 I'm thinking EA might just let it it slide because, it's an old game, the people remastering it aren't making any money from it, and it causes more people to buy it which benefits Disney/Lucas/EA. Because there's essentially only one "modern" Star Wars game out right now, which is Battlefront, and they're not really making any money on that right now because everyone who was gonna buy it probably has. It's still a high possibility it'll get shut down, but I'll give it at least a 40% chance of it not getting shut down right now,

The Galaxy in Turmoil project is still on-going, but because of EA, they had to remove all the Star Wars assets, essentially turning it into a new IP.

I really want this to be a success, but considering Disney and EA's track record with mods/fan projects I have my doubts.

Just got to have hope. Maybe, just MAYBE if this succeeds, this'll lead to a new RC....

It's being passed off as a mod that requires the original game. So with any luck, it won't get shut down by men in two-piece suits.

@@Archangel470 If this does release I could see it being pretty successful, (Maybe) grabbing the attention of EA (And since the mod is (Probably) doing well) they would think about a imperial Commando. (EA wants $$, and a good way to make $$ off of SW fans is to make sequels/remasters for games they love) It's just a thought.

I doubt EA will have plans for Republic/Imperial Commando. They'll probably pursue new, original ideas in the SW universe. And frankly, I wouldn't want them to touch RC either.

Hell, finally. Republic Commando is the one of the best SW games ever created. Dark and hardcore, I still can't end it on the highest difficulty level.

One thing bothers me: publisher can just ban this project, as happened with the remake of Metal Gear Solid.
