The point of his statement isn't having a new life, in a new body, anybody would want that. More than oblivion or hell, he feared he would return to the same poor condition he was born into and start again on the same streets from scratch. He feared having to go through the living hell that his early life was, through the projects and the starving and violence, and that all his progress, all his knowledge, his fortune, all his worth would vanish then and there, on his death-bed, and he'd start again with nothing in the worst neighborhoods on Earth.
At least that's how I always heard it.
Reincarnation, even conceptually, is only a problem if it brings you back to square 1, or in worse conditions than when you died. You literally lose absolutely everything - family, friends, memories, self-consciousness, everything you've ever earned or learned, and ultimately your very life, and that's terrifying. More so terrifying is having to make it out of the ghetto in one piece when kids are killed on the streets for no reason.

This is something I've given a lot of thought to- maybe too much, and, yeah, I've come to view the concept as Tupac does. There's a lot more I could say, but it would go into deep philosophical discussion.

There's no need to condescend because you may be right on your part. The hook on the song "My Only Fear of Death" has him repeating it, which was sampled from an interview done on BET or MTV in the early 90's and towards the end of the song he clearly quotes it again. And don't imply that I don't appreciate his work because we both walked the same path in life. He ended up in a grave and I managed to leave that lifestyle behind me. Now all I deal with are people that still walk that same path, trying to rehab them and showing them that there are indeed better choices in life.
