so i just got a new pc and went to go install fallout NV and after i start new game and skip the cutsceen it crashes and also when you just click play on steam and it brings up that fallout new vegas menu and click options it says my graphics adapter is microsoft basic render driver how do i change that thanks and plz help

Need some details on your computer, specs, operating system, what graphics card is supposed to be in there? You click the drop down menu for graphic adapter it doesn't show anything else? You can also check your device manager and see if your card is showing up.

I'm by no means a hardware expert but I'll do my best to help, until its fixed or somebody more knowledgeable comes along.

I'm no expert but I can help out a bit too. As a starter I'll tell you my laptop specs:

Lenovo G510
Intel i7 2.4 Ghz
6 GB RAM
1 TB ROM
Video Memory 3.1 GB

Video Card:
Intel HD 4600

Render:
AMD Radeon R7 M265 Series

Mine runs fine and smooth, though due to some mods I need extra RAM. For now I can say these are average gaming specs. New Vegas Vanilla runs fine especially with the unofficial patches and few fixes like NVAC(Anti-Crash) and No Stutter mod.

If you got doubts follow what Evmeister said. No harm checking the device manager. I hope that helped.
