Crashing and 'Out of Memory' Error Since Switching ENB Empty
PostSubject: Crashing and 'Out of Memory' Error Since Switching ENB   Crashing and 'Out of Memory' Error Since Switching ENB EmptyFri Apr 03, 2020 3:25 am

Hello, I'm Sturm. I registered here a few days ago, since I heard about certain mods being available here that are not on the Nexus (concerning FNV).

Yesterday I decided to get rid of Jay's ENB (this was once available on the Nexus, but was either hidden or deleted I recall sometime in 2018 and never made available again) to try 47 ENB 2 by hitman.

Thus far I really am liking it. It does remind me quite a bit of Jay's ENB, but comes with a much better weather .esp (I was previously trying Project Reality and then Nevada Skies with Jay's ENB, the latter drastically altering the lighting and the former having shite performance).

However, since the installation I have been having nearly constant CTDs, which are often accompanied by the dreaded 'out of memory' message (providing the game actually CTDs and does not lock up completely, which occurs more often). This is quite peculiar, as I have not had the out of memory CTD in a very long time (possibly several years, when I was still using the fnv4gb .exe instead of the patcher).

I am running NVSR (with optimised .ini edits for Windows 10) and NVTF simultaneously, so I decided to uninstall NVSR. Did not help anything. I also uninstalled some 4K textures that I recently installed (Bornagain combat armour), again nothing. I am using a very large amount of 4K textures and am also running EVE, Impact, and EXE. I have nearly 120 plugins activated.

However, these issues did not appear before installing this particular ENB. It is very strange.

I don't really think that the engine is using too much memory (I only installed one high resolution retexture, aforementioned above, before installing this ENB). I honestly do not know what the issue is.

And yes, I also edited the enblocal.ini for proper VRAM (am using a 2080 Ti, which has exactly 11264 MB of VRAM) and reserved memory size (512 MB, also tried 1024 and 768 MB, did nothing).

What is going on?!!! Please help!

I'm not sure but I think I fixed this issue by editing my enb.ini files. By putting the correct vram usage number. Just google how to tweak enb ini files.

EDIT:
Nevermind this whole post, didn't read your op properly...
But have you tried using 2k textures instead?

TheHusky is probably right. I have a similar load order (about
120 plugins as well as 47 enb v2.) And have no crashes whatsoever.
Try adjusting the vram setting in enblocal.ini.
Use the VramTestTool DX9 by Boris Vorontsov (the enb Dev) to detect your correct vram setting, you may have to subtract something from the value the tool gives you depending on your OS (check the fear and loathing guide for more info).

If that does not help try using medium size (1K-2K) texture packs and not the ultra versions (2K-4K).

PS:
I especially like this line in your loadorder:
84 54 Project Reality Footsteps.esp
I hope you enjoy it :-)

You're correct in getting rid of NVSR, it will only f up your game.

Keep using NVTF

Get NVAC if you don't have it.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635

Also, use ENBoost by Boris for a fast fix with editing the enb local file.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/51670

Also, get rid of the 4k textures. They're only good for screen archery. Downsize on the big mod packs like NMCs or Ojo (whatever major texture replacer you use).

Just from the look of it too, you can merge quite a number of your plugins. So many are simply fixes that it's a waste of esp slot.

Fore example, it looks like you're running most of Yvileapsis's mods. He released a merged variant in March.

Just as Tribal Raven mentioned, NVSR can really mess up your game unless you specifically tailor and tweak it extensively. I still use it without issue, but it's a highly modified version of it. I would also ask if there are any particular moments or things you notice about the crashes, such as where you are or what you're doing when they occur. If you do end up tweaking your enblocal.ini and patching your game and still are having OOM errors, there's most definitely something else going on

I think so. Earlier today I went into the enblocal.ini belonging to Jay's ENB to see if I could notice any differences with it to the respective enblocal.ini for 47 ENB 2.

There were three significant differences under the 'memory' header:

[MEMORY]
ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true
ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true
DisableDriverMemoryManager=true

these three were set to false in the 47 ENB 2 enblocal.ini. I thereafter changed them to true.

This appeared to have made a big difference, enough that I could actually fast travel to the Strip North Gate without crashing (this would seemingly always occur prior to setting the aforementioned three lines to true). However, I still occasionally had CTDs (these, however, did not completely lock up the game and I was able to alt-tab out of it). I think these crashes were due to NVSR, so I uninstalled it (for probably the 50th time this month, since I've long been testing it to see how much of a difference the optimised .ini makes when paired with NVTF).

That being said, I feel like I having more microstuttering with this ENB than with Jay's ENB (I also had NVTF and NVSR then as well). Maybe not. I'm not really sure, and enabling/disabling Vsync does not make much of a difference and neither does setting maximum FPS in NVTF, be it to 144 (144Hz is my native refresh rate) or to over 200 fps. Setting the max fps to 0 has always resulted in the game crashing (and usually locking up completely, which not even Task Manager is able to remedy).

Well, like we all said before, have you tried changing your VRAM on enblocal.ini yet? I'm sorry if you did because you didn't write it on your last comment. If not you should try it. For micro stuttering, I fixed mine on FO4 by removing the mod files from the local game files (I was using mod manager) yet I still had some mods that I've manually installed, maybe it's the same for FNV. But I have high hope that your problem will be fixed if you change your VRAM according to your vram from the enblocal.ini .

That's always one of the first things I do after installing an ENB. And no, it did not make much of a difference regarding the crashes.

I believe that setting ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=false to ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true solved the out of memory error and CTDs (also infinite loading screens, which may or may not have also been partially due to NVSR). Why this was not set to true in the enblocal.ini by default is anyone's guess. It clearly is pretty mandatory to enable to avoid most of these issues, even with LAA enabled and with NVTF and NVSE installed (and also with the nvse_config.ini memory patch).

Is it actually possible to run out of memory with LAA enabled in combination with ENBoost (in enblocal.ini) successfully configured?

That being said, despite being fairly convinced the bulk of these crashes are solved, I still am suffering from a considerable amount of microstutter (although worst scenario, it is still tolerable and does not make the game unplayable). I also reduced the DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB in my nvse_config.ini to 400 MB instead of 512 MB. I did not really observe any tangible difference.

edit: I also just ran the VRAM size test, and got 19200 MB as a result. I therefore put 18850 MB for VideoMemorySizeMb (I had entered 11264 previously, as I am running a 2080 Ti, which has 11GB of VRAM). I haven't played yet since making this change, but I sort of doubt it will make much of a difference (as 11264 MB is already almost certainly enough in the first place).

another edit: I think I solved a great bit of the stuttering. It turns out that BethINI (which I installed recently, since it makes editing Fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini significantly easier, whilst also sorting the .inis and doing other stuff I never really wanted) buggered some of it up. I noticed that iHWThread=2 (or 6, since I am running an 8700k) was probably deleted as 'invalid', as was bUseThreadedAI (it was completely gone, which is pretty strange since this is a line that is normally present by default and does not need to be manually added, unlike iHWThread). I then set bUseThreadedAI=1 (as it was in one of my prior Fallout.ini configurations, which explains why my stutter previously wasn't nearly as bad).

If anyone else is using BethINI to edit those two .inis, watch out for some of this.

Also, if it could have made a difference, I reset some of my audio-related changes back as well. I originally gave 8192 MB of cache for audio (I know this is a lot), due to persistent audio stutter (radio and ambient music), but I believe I got rid of this since installing the CCCP codec pack, so I reverted all of these back to default or close to default (I have iAudioCacheSize now set to 2048 MB (I forget what the default allocation was) instead of 8192 MB, and iRadioUpdateInterval to the default 250 as opposed to 1024). No idea if these ever really effected performance, but I changed them back anyways.

Crashing and 'Out of Memory' Error Since Switching ENB Empty

Hi,

I have a Nexus mod that might help you. It goes over some different setups to get large textures working in FNV. It may help even if you are not using many large textures. The link is https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/66626 .

Also, there is a new mod called "FNV Mod Limit Fix" at https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/68714 that some people have reported helps with their micro stuttering.

Audio settings changes can cause problems. Changing audio settings in the Fallout INIs can cause memory problems and lockups in some cases. Having bMultiThreadAudio=1 setup when you don't need it can cause problems. The reverse can be true if you actually have a multi-channel hookup (more than 2 speaker wires) on your PC. Changing audio buffers can be a bad idea too. Best to not play with the audio settings if you can avoid it.

Hope that helps.

try using the "mod limit fix" mod on nexus.
NVSE, 4GB patch, NVAC, NVSR, Ogg Vorbis libaries and ENB boost are essential (in my opinion)
But take a look at your ini files. they can cause it too. If you have no knowledge about ini files just look for decent ones in some guides.

^^ hope some one could help
