Interesting to hear what y’all favorite fallout is and the general consensus on Fallout 4 here. Do you think it is a solid sequel, massive dissapointment, or something else?

EDIT: Sorry for the name, my app bugged out and the topic was published before I finished writing it.

Fallout 2 is my personal favorite Fallout since it was the one the I grew up with and I am still playing it though not as frequently as I did when I was younger.

I view Fallout 4 as a half-assed project by Bethesda. There were so many new and interesting features that was not expanded upon. For example the crafting mechanic is awesome however it feels so basic that it just let's you craft consumable items and exchange weapon/armor parts. They could have expanded on this by adding craftable makeshift weapons and armor or added a more interesting way to repair items.

Fallout 4 was a disappointing game but it isn't a bad one(not as bad a Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel anyway). You could probably get enjoyment out of it especially when modded.

I'd say New Vegas is my favorite un-modded, and with mods it is even better.

In terms of Fallout 4, it certainly lacked the magic of earlier releases. Initially got it on consoles when it released, and it was honestly quite dull. I played one run and then dropped it. All the bugs I encountered also didn't help, and pretty much all of them I could have dealt with myself had I got it on PC and had access to the console.

I'd say it was your typical Bethesda game, built to serve more as a skeleton for the modding community to fix and make great, rather than just be a great game by itself.

My favorite game in the series has to be New Vegas, but it's a close call. When I got fallout 3 it became my favorite game hands down and reigned above all other platform releases as the king. NV came in eventually, and even though it was rushed as all heck I thought obsidian did a great job showing why THEY were the creators of the franchise.

Fallout 4 on the other hand was a major disappointment to me. Fallout has always been a great RPG in my eyes but this title was lacking when it came to it's writing and characters. Don't get me wrong the gunplay is great, but I never grew attached to the characters or towns or stories like I did in new vegas.

My favorite Fallout game is probably New Vegas, it was my first game in the series and it'll always be one of my favorite games of all time. It's given me a lot of great memories over the past several years and I love how I can personalize my experience time and time again with mods.

As for Fallout 4, I reckon it's an okay game. I had a lot of fun with Fallout 4, however I'm not nearly as attached to Fallout 4 as I am for New Vegas. I'll always have nostalgia for the Fallout 4 hype train though, lol.

Probably like alot on the GUNetwork would say. New Vegas is my favorite. It was my introduction to the Fallout series, and I just loved the whole western aspect of the game. Fallout 3 is a solid game too, but I wasn't a big fan of more dirt landscape with collapsed buildings. I've not played the original two Fallouts, but I have them on Steam. I just need to download and play.

As for Fallout 4, I like it. I really do. However with that said. It's not flawless. As people have pointed out. It lacks severely on RPG elements. Not to mention all endings are terrible. Why? Because they're identical! Just mix and swap the factions. However despite it's flaws. FO4 did improve on the series. Gun combat is so much better, I love what they did with the Pip-Boy and Power Armor, and despite what others say I love Legendary Enemies and Legendary Weapons. Also. Customizing your weapons and armor is a huge plus! The only thing I wasn't too wild about was the Vault Suit, but I think surprisingly FO76 improved on that. But yeah. Overall FO4 is great, but not perfect.

Originally I got introduced to Fallout by Fallout 3 playthroughs by RadBrad and SSoHPKC and I was really intrigued by the fact your character grew up. But when I bought the game for PS3, bought the wrong one, played for a couple of minutes and it wasn't the one I wanted so I didn't touch it for a while for like a year then I started watching guides on it and I decided to pick it back up and fell in love with the game. Then I got a PC and played it on here as well as all the other Fallouts (1,2,3)

IMO Fallout 4 is a really good game, just like Spiderman Homecoming is a good movie, but it's not a good Fallout game. your choices don't really matter, the endings have like no difference and it just feels way more like a first person shooter with dialouge choices then the level of RPG New Vegas brought

The very first Fallout I played was FO3. It was for the 360 and my control sticks were inverted so I sold it to a buddy and never got into it. Played Skyrim and loved it so I bought Fallout 4 and loved it. Modded it a bunch Thought it was an amazing RPG.....

That was until I played New Vegas. I just feel like the quests and the all the decisions you have to make in NV are so much more difficult than anything in 4. Like others above me have said, in Fallout 4 there is basically no different outcome based on the choices you make. I remember only one quest being somewhat complicated with a lot of different outcomes in FO4 (Diamond City Blues) and that's probably my favorite quest in the whole game, whereas New Vegas has a TON of quests with even more tough decisions and different outcomes. I actually feel bad about some of the things that I have to do in New Vegas, regardless of which faction I am siding with. Obsidian really did a great job.

I really need to play Fallout 1 and 2. I've watched videos and they look like they have a great story I just don't know if I could get myself to play them.

All in all I have enjoyed every Fallout game I have played but New Vegas is definitely by far my favorite over 3 and 4.

@ Original Post.

Personally, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas are both my favorites. Fallout 3 felt like a true post apocalypse world. While Fallout New Vegas really did a good job on role playing and factions. So I couldn't possibly choose one over the other. I however, would love to play the Classic Fallout Games, and I'm sure I'll get to the point where I'll love the entire series. Ha Ha. Smile

I began my acquaintance with the Fallout series of the Fallout 3 part, when NV came into my hands - it was the best part in my opinion, a very interesting scene, a very rich gameplay and various small chips that are still not used in other games. The plot is unique and interesting, non-linearity and the right to choose, this is a very extensive list of advantages for the year of release of the game. FNV is still not inferior to many games in terms of gameplay and atmosphere, and I gladly play it with modifications, complementing it and improving it visually.
Obsidian handsome, create such a game ... it is brilliant. Soon they go out of The Outer Worlds. I hope they do not fall face in the dirt and the game will be the same epochal as FNV.
P.S. Sorry for my english, this is not my native language.

I spent the most time with Fallout 4 out of all of the Fallout games. I really enjoyed the story from the start to the end and Nuka World felt like a great epilogue type adventure for my character. I'm always really puzzled by people who say they had roleplaying issues in Fallout 4. I never had that issue and it was easily the most attached I ever became to any of my characters I had created prior. Unlike FNV, the game doesn't just cut you off as soon as the main story ends, and the way they handle dropping the player off is about as graceful as I've seen in any video game ever. I'll admit the dialogue options were lacking, but I still really enjoyed how well they flowed. The world doesn't freeze in place just because you're having a conversation, you're still able to move around and tinker at will.

Another thing I enjoyed about Fallout 4 is that it finally allowed you to experience the Fallout universe from the perspective of the managerial types who have always been hinted at, but were never playable. Ex: Caravan trader, General, Raider boss, vault overseer, etc... It's nice doing something other than just playing out the role of the adventurer all the time, which is all the previous Fallouts have ever been. I really enjoyed the settlement building mechanics. It's a very physical way to interact and advance the world around you. It's nice at the end of the game to look back on all of the work you've done.

FNV is fine, I guess. It's just horribly buggy and unstable. I personally don't share the same love for Obsidian that every else seems to have. I think they're a horribly managed company and it's a wonder they're still in business.

Fallout 4 isn’t a bad game at all. Bethesda just lost sight of what fans enjoyed out of the series and pandered to the complaints of the last two games instead. 3 and New Vegas we’re heavily criticised for their clunky gunplay and bleak green/brown visuals, so Bethesda decided to “improve” upon those while taking what mattered out of the series out in an attempt to condense them down into easily digestible and accessible forms.

I’ve defended 3 and 4 to the death, but my personal favourite has always constantly flickered between 3 and New Vegas. Before 4 was released, I felt like my opinion that New Vegas was the best was seldom held, but after, I attempted to distance myself from that opinion. New Vegas was held as a masterpiece all of a sudden and 4 was scolded as a disgrace. The bandwagon made such an impact on how I viewed my favourite game that I decided to distance myself from New Vegas and call back to 3 being my favourite game of the franchise, being that it too was one of my favourite games ever, and it was the first taste of my favourite franchise.

Truly I know New Vegas is my personal favourite, but I hated how overrated it was, and how majority of it’s fans hinge on critiquing the other games as means to defend it.

I know I’ve criticised New Vegas heavily for it’s desolate and barren desert setting, but I really enjoy it’s setting, characters and style. The Mojave was much more memorable to me than the Commonwealth, and while locations like Paradise Falls and Tenpenny Tower hold a special place in my heart, I really loved Freeside and The Strip.

I play my Bethesda games heavily modded, and I like the settlement system (especially with mods.) So I don't hate Fallout 4 at all. I miss the more complex skill dialogue checks, but otherwise... man, look at the improvements in companions that Bethesda has been steadily making.
In Morrowind with the expansion, there was a hireable mercenary, with no personality, and not even a name.
In Skyrim, we had Lydia... who, well, I guess was better than the mercenary.
In Fallout 3 we had companions who seemed a little better than Skyrim's, but were far from amazing.
I think Fallout 4's companions have come a long way. Even just Piper's introduction had more life in it than, well, anything Bethesda has ever done before. Valentine and Codsworth are certainly better than the dead-eyed lifeless potatoes of Oblivion and they're robots.

So I saw the good in Fallout 4, and enjoyed it for those things, and was not consumed by the rage so common on the internet about seemingly almost all movies, games and tv shows connected to our hobbies.
In sum, I had every reason to believe that Bethesda was going to get steadily better at writing people. From what I hear of Fallout 76, I was very, very wrong, and so I worry for the future.

I see why some people like Fallout 3, but I still preferred New Vegas as it continued the story that I'd awaited for ages and had at one time given up hope of ever seeing. TTW has it right -- experience the apocalypse of fallout 3, and then set out in search of the city that was spared the fires of that apocalypes, get the best of both worlds with one character.

When people like one Bethesda game and hate another... make sure you modded it properly. You shouldn't have to, but you probably do need to.

My favourite Fallout game for story is New Vegas. None of the stories Bethesda have told comes close. However for gameplay; I like Fallout 4 for the combat, and the settlement system. Fallout 76's story was absolutely boring for me, I quit after a few hours. The reason why I kept playing was because Thought the story would get better; though I found it wouldn't. From the audio logs that you find from the overseer, it seems that she had a better story than the main. I was utterly disappointed with 76 on release, and felt the burn when Bethesda dropped the price to £15 a few weeks later.

Yeah, I actually love the settlement system especially with mods (it was what I wanted in Hearthfire in Skyrim, which was so limited it was frustrating.) I'm betting anyone who was seriously interested in house-building in Hearthfire was disappointed at its limitations. A more fallout 4-style building system for the houses would have been very much loved by every Skyrim House Builder, I think. But if the houses felt mandatory... maybe not so much.
So lot of fallout 4 comes down to whether or not you like the settlement building, and they may have made too many assumptions about how widely it would be accepted by the playerbase.
I loved caravan in New Vegas, but a lot of people hated it or skipped it -- luckily for New Vegas' reputation, it wasn't anywhere near mandatory... it was just "there if you wanted it."

Favorite fallout if we talk unmodded than fo3 and nv are pretty shit and fo4 is the superior one . Cuz the gameplay is so solid and graphics are passable but the story is garbage and there is like no player choice i like to think fo4 as a good game but a terrible fallout game. im so orginal i know

But with mods fallout nv becommes something beautiful and unique

in short answer modded fnv is best

New Vegas, modded of course, is my favorite, though I never played the isometric originals. Even unmodded, New Vegas still has the superior gameplay mechanics, writing, and overall depth, but boy was it rough/buggy on launch. I wish they were still making DLC expansions for New Vegas. That game only got better the bigger it got.

Fallout 3 is no slouch though. I had a blast with that game. It was my first Bethesda game and I almost gave up on it because of the leveled/scaling enemies but thankfully I discovered how mod friendly the game was. Mods fixed so many issues and took the game from great to spectacular.

Fallout 4? It's one of the most disappointing games in my Steam collection. Watching the trailer, I thought it was going to be a next gen New Vegas but I was horrified with what Bethesda actually delivered. Hate is a strong word but years later I am still very bitter towards Fallout 4 and opposed to nearly all the design decisions Bethesda made with that game. Bethesda better be careful because they are well on their way to losing what made their game's special in the first place.

Fallout New Vegas will always be my favorite. I love the setting, I love the story, the companions, and the mods really make the game last and change into something completely epic.

I never even made it out of vault 111 in FO4 maybe one day I'll give it another chance but there is still New California, the Frontier, and Tank Girls Star Wars Two Suns Mod to look forward to!

Our "First Fallout" likely shapes how we view the rest of the series.
Mine was Fallout 2 (I honestly don't know why I started with 2 rather than 1... I think 2 was on the shelf at the store in '98 and 1 wasn't, that day.) And it really did shape how I expected the series to be.

Which sort of makes me wonder about people who had '76 as their first.
