| As the title says, I'm crashing every once in a while. I think it's Windows 10 related as it happened with no mods installed. What happens is I'll be playing and then after a while it just randomly freezes or it'll start to lag and sounds won't play properly(which leads to a freeze in a matter of seconds). If the latter happens and I enter a building or something, it takes significantly longer to load and then when it finally does there is no floor or anything. Just a few random floating objects. If I try to load a save during this, I freeze like the former.
It happened when I tried a Dust playthrough. Deleted everything and installed a blank game. Still happened. Now playing a TTW playthrough and the problem is still there. No matter what I do, it's there.
I have no idea what is causing this or how to fix it. I'm leaning on this being a Windows 10 issue with NV because I never had these issues before upgrading. This happened on a new clean install. I also am experiencing a lot of freezing with the GECK which never happened to me before.
So far, I've tried running both in Windows 7 compatibility mode(which seems to help a little bit), installing all the stability mods like CASM, NVAC, and Stutter Remover(which I then replaced with a Windows 10 friendly version). Still the problem persists. It gets real old having to constantly boot the game up every once in a while because it decides to freeze. Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this so I can play the game? |

| Other than using stability mods, have you tried tweaking the ini configs as well? Also are you running a heavily modded game? sadly any heavily (like 200+) modded game can have stability issues. Epecailly mods that use lots of scripts. _________________ swiggitty swooty I'm coming for that booty -George Washington |

| I don't know what to change in the ini files. I'm not using many mods. Mainly just TTW and some weapon mods. Shouldn't be a mod conflict as most mods I put in are just weapons. |

| What I can recommend to you is to reinstall the game again and then follow this excellent guide:

Hope it will help. |

| @Wertologist - I was reviewing the guide you followed and now I'm curious, because I am running windows 10 and planning on reloading NV. After you loaded the New Vegas Stutter remover, did you try the ini tweak Gamerpoet recommended? bHookCriticalSections = 0 or =1 Did changing it to =0 or =1 make any difference? He suggests Windows 10 may still crash and if so to delete the Stutter remover mod completely and continue in his guide. Did any of those options affect the crashing you're experiencing? |

| Tried that tweak first, but when it didn't help, I tried this replacement that was suggested in the comments: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/66537
At the moment, it seems to be a bit more stable and not crashing as often, but I still sometimes get that weird empty cell crashing glitch. Also, every single time I try to close the game, it freezes and I have to open the task manager to close it. So it's still a bit buggy in W10, but I guess this replacement for Stutter seems to help sometimes. |
