 Tombstone Review: Creep (2015) Creep%2B-%2Bposter

Back in the day, horror movies where just that, horror movies. Today, the horror genre has expanded so much that when we talk about horror movies, we can talk about a lot of different subgenres in it, such as: slasher, survival, found footage, shock horror, monster movie, torture porn, etc. Creep, the movie i'll be reviewing today, is part of a subgenre called mumblegore, wich imo really expanded the horror genre. Mumblegore is a subgenre inside mumblecore. How about that? lol. For those of you who are not familiar with mumblecore, mumblecore is a low budget indie movie proposal that most of the time includes amateur actors and bases almost the whole movie experience in dialogues and long takes. Most mumblecore movies are focus on drama or comedy (ex: "Martha Marcy May Marlene"), and a movie can only be called mumblegore when it includes all of the mention elements and adds gore or explicit violence scenes in it (ex, V/H/S franchise, A Horrible Way To Die, etc).

 Tombstone Review: Creep (2015) Mark_duplass_advice

Okay, this sort of introduction i made is for everyone to understand that if mumblecore/mublegore can have a really good exponent, that one is Creep. Oh, one more thing before i start, Creep is also a found footage, of course, but don't go just yet xd, keep reading. I'm aware that when someone says "mockumentary" or "found footage" horror movie everyone is like "yoimoutofhere.jpg", a complete waste of time... but with Creep i can assure you that it's something way more different. Now that all of that has been said, let's go on with the review (finally)

 Tombstone Review: Creep (2015) Creep-2014-horror-indie-mark-duplass-patrick-brice-movie-review-scary

Creep tells us the story of two people, Aaron and Josef. Aaron is hired by Josef to film a day of his life. I won't tell much more because Creep is a movie you need to watch without any kind of reference. We only got two actors, no more needed because in Creep the main character is the dialogue between them and the secondary character are the situations that the movie creates. The script is brilliantly made. and the sensations that are produced by it are very diversed. From funny-weird stuff,(peachfuuuuuuzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!), drama, bewilderment and THAT ENDING that is going to get stuck in your head for a while.

Everything awesomely interpreted by two mumblecore actors: Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass, and why do i say they are mumblecore actors? Because making an awesome display of naturality that is the signature of mumblecore films, it is Patrick Brice, the movie director, who interprets Aaron, and the producer Mark Duplass (i love him since watching "The Lazarus Effect", his acting is so fucking superb. I really recommend everyone to watch Safety Not Guaranteed and The One I love for more of his work) who does the same thing with Josef.

 Tombstone Review: Creep (2015) Netflix_creep_still_v2

Creep isnˈt the average horror movie, it develops the psychological and sentimental parts, interweaves the good and evil, reality, trust and causes opposite reactions. Creep takes his time to do all of that, and thats the argument most haters use for criticizing it. Sure, most of the time it's repetitive and slow phased, but Creep has no rush in getting to the "holy shit" part at all. All of that said and considering that i really enjoyed it, imo Creep should have been a short film, where i'm pretty sure it would have get every possible cinema award. I think that's the ideal format for this type of film tbh.

Creep could have been even more great with some more extra fucked up and violent scenes, and of course, more scenes filmed with a homemade camera like
Spoiler:

Anyway, there's really not much to say about Creep besides that is really must watch, so if haven' but without looking for gore, violence, drama or morbid stuff, don't even ponder about it, just let yourself go with the characters and enjoy.

OVERALL 8/10
