Fallout 4: Black and White choices(some spoilers)

Post by BigBossMan on Tue Dec 22, 2015 3:11 pm

Anyone else feel like there is no room for diplomacy? The most you can do is threaten  and even then that feels....unaccomplished. If i remember right there were a few times in FO3 and FNV where you could resolve a situation peacefully or in a more comical way.

But I also understand, sometimes there are moments and times when peace is not an option as both parties are so set in their ways that, no amount of words will convince an individual

SPOILER!:
I myself sided with the Brotherhood of steel, though they were prejudice and at times down right rude, I noticed some BOS members were not, but elder maxson took the cake in that department. So many times during a conversation I saw potential to try and sway him or even lessen casualties. I know there is cut content in which you and paladin Danse can over throw maxson, why this was removed I have no clue. But during the raid on the institute I felt there could of been a peaceful solution, rather then stomp a hole in their hideout and just kill everyone, I set the evacuation protocol thing, but during the fight inside I noticed the BOS killed even civilian scientist without remorse :/.

Though I disagree with the way choices were designed, much of the game I really loved. The characters were fleshed out really good, I absolutely love Curie and dogmeat, OMG give him a teddy bear!

I know im not the only one thinking FO4 fell a bit short in the story and outcome department, ive read quite a few replies on kotaku with peoples disappointments and even some outright hating the game *shrug*. But other then that and the lack of weapon varieties *I like them, dont get me wrong, just wish there were better assault rifles* FO4 was fantastic in my opinion.

There really isn't any room for diplomacy with the simple fact that what ever faction you choose to side with has to annihilate the other factions except the Minutemen unless you side with them. It would have been nice to see faction alliances or maybe deals they could have worked with each other. It's interesting how in this game the bad or good guy faction is not very clear. In Fallout 3 it was clear that the Enclave were bad and that the Legion were bad in New Vegas, but in this game there really isn't a bad faction or a good faction just a bunch of radical factions with their own radical ideas and you are forced to pick one of them. Overall i think the game is great just not a fan of the factions present in the game with maybe an exception with the BOS, but even then they're also radical and it's primarily because of 3 do I like them and the fact they are a bad ass advanced army with power armor.

Yea, that was one of my biggest debacles. On one hand you had a techy group, a militant group, for the people group, and FO4's own "Rebel" group. But yeah, there's no real plain view of who're the bad guys this time around :/,
SPOILER!:
I mean, to me kellogg was the bad guy there for awhile. He took the kid and to me had to die. I did feel bad for him after rooting through his brain piece and indeed decided to forgive him in the conversation with Father. But what angered me about the Institute was that they didnt consider the people on the surface to be the future, in that logical I felt they were ass backwards and were thinking of the old world and not the new.

Does anyone remember the ending lines of the OWB expansion for new vegas? About how old world blues were people who were so caught up in the past that they couldn't see the present? For me, and I may be alone in this, that sums up the Institute and the Brotherhood. No one faction was totally evil in the way the Legion and Enclave were, but each were obsessed with their one goal to the point of ignoring everything else.

Of the four factions the only one that I see as truly "evil" would be the institute. I'll get more to why shortly.

The Brotherhood of Steel is caught in the past. They say that they want to grab all the technology in order to keep the people safe. In reality though, they are scared of what people can do when they have access to the tech of the past. They know that there are people out there that can take that tech and move it forward into areas that quite frankly scares them. In their minds, the synths are the epitome of what can happen if people get their hands on the old tech so the solution is to take it all away. They know what happened with the old tech and can manage that and as a result they want to keep things as they were. Their actions in the pursuit of the tech can be called draconian and evil but in reality they could be considered to be neutral and apathetic overall...

The railroad can also be considered to be a neutral party (well.. more chaotic actually). Unless you are a synth trying to escape they keep away and don't get involved. If you get in their way though they go all gang-busters on you....

The MinuteMen are the benevolent caretakers of the Commonwealth (especially once you get involved..). They try to help out everyone, but in the process they can get burned. Case in point is the situation that occurred in Quincy which occurred before you met Preston. A traitor got into the ranks and as a result the area suffered. They tend to trust too much, (which is actually one of their strengths as well...)..

Now the truly evil ones are the institute. They operate under the guise of trying to improve life but in reality they are against it. They continued development of the FEV virus and they kidnap people in order to replace them with Gen 3 synths. These synths are placed key positions for reasons ranging from observation to outright control (the Mayor of diamond city for example). The worst part though is they have Synths creating other synths. How long will it be until the synths revolt against their human "masters" and start replacing everyone? Of everything that has occurred, up to and including nuclear annihilation - this alone has the potential of destroying all of what remains of humanity.

So to sum it up....
Institute = Evil
Brotherhood = Lawful Neutral
Railroad = Chaotic Neutral
Minutemen = Good
