PostSubject: How relevant will the Lone Wanderer be?   Tue Jul 28, 2015 1:48 pm

After playing through Fallout 3 for the Nth time, I began to wonder how Fallout 4 will handle the Lone Wanderer's involvement with Project Purity and the conflict between the Enclave and DC Brotherhood. What ending was canon? How often will it be brought up in Fallout 4? Will the Lone Wanderer be revered as a legend, or will he/she fade into obscurity like the Elder Scrolls protagonists? Will he/she still be alive at the time of Fallout 4? If not, did he/she canonically die when the purifier was activated?

Please show me your thoughts and comments on this matter.

I think he might be involved maybe later in the story, but nothing major. Maybe like some references.

Well, I'm personally hoping that the story will be new and have nothing to do with The Lone Wanderer (as much as I love them). A new setting and location probably mean we won't see them at all in the story. Although I would never put it past the developers to at least put a few references to TLW in the world somewhere. Maybe an NPC who tells the story around a camp fire, or a reference in letters or in logs.

But with only one reference in New Vegas I think they're going to let him fade in favour of developing the new Vault Dweller.

That just makes me think, how cool would it be to have the Lone Wanderer to be your companion? In fact, have they canonically done that in Fallout game where two playable character's meet each other?

No, the closest to that is that the Chosen One (Fallout 2) is the grandson of the Vault Dweller (Fallout 1) but they never met in-game, if it all

I too remember this.
And in response to something said before, Lone Wanderer did not die in the activation of the purifier, as we can see in Broken Steel that he is in fact, still alive.
Also, in New Vegas the 'Wasteland Survival Guide' is present, and that is a clear contribution of the Lone Wanderer.

i say in fallout 4 they will make slight remarks and acknowledge he existed but i don't see them making a big deal about him i could see DLC potential though where you could do missions and such on his behalf

Probably as prevalent as the Nerevarine in Oblivion. Bethesda has a tendency of having previous protagonists disappearing.

Maybe they will just be some references, like a caravan selling some Aqua Pura or something like that... But that would be cool to encounter the Courier, because this is theoretically possible !

I think that there may be some reference to the kid from 101 seeing as Dr Li ran away to the Commonwealth. I don't think it will be really expounded upon though as the main character is him (or her) self from a vault as well. I suspect you'll find her at the old MIT working on new androids or trying to find an easier way to purify water - that or captured somewhere..
