Not sure if this is the place to be posting such a question but...I've been wanting to add a weapon sight to the Ruger 556 mod that was recently released. I'm not at all familiar with modding nor do I know where to begin to complete such a task. I've tried looking up how to videos on youtube and searching google but nothing has really come up to the topic.

So if anyone can show me how or point me to the material needed let me know!

Generally here's how it's gonna go down.

1) you will have to use GECK. prepare yourself if you're one of those modding-tools shy people. Apply lube liberally. (but honestly it's not that bad). Get Nifskope as well.

2) since you dont seem to be too experienced your best bet is 'copy-pasting' assets from existing mods into the ruger.

3) follow this tut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jRhO3Lvf7U. Basically you have to select the weapon scope / sight part, right click, "copy block" and paste it into the "BSFadeNode" on the very TOP of the block list (the list with all the stuff on the left of the nifskope window). right click on the "BSFadeNode" entry, do "paste block", then edit the newly pasted block- give it a unique name and so on and so forth.

3) if you want an EOTECH it'll probably have another 'lens' mesh for the holographic sight inside. you'll have to adjust the sighting nodes to line up with the crosshairs in the EOTECH lens.

there's a tutorial I saw on the GECK wiki for this exact situation, but I can't seem to find it again for the life of me.

An Aimpoint Micro Red Dot Sight is what I'm thinking on adding to the weapon. I'm talking about the sight that's available as a modder's resource on the nexus. But mainly I want to add red dot sights and maybe a Trijicon Acog onto the weapon. So I don't know if this will be affected in anyway given that I'll need a lens mesh and calibrating it to the cross hairs.

As long as you don't post it up as a mod, there are several weapons on the nexus (seeing as you're not approved yet) that have good quality scopes. the exciter M4 pack from what I remember has an ACOG, with the lens mesh on it. as for your micro you could probably just substitute a red dot 'lens' from the same exciter M4 pack.

it sounds a little confusing and I'm currently busy doing stuff at the moment, but hopefully you'll figure it out / I'll get some time to help you.

Sounds good. I used to be apart of the older VGU and I have a few weapon mods that were available to the public such as the M4 RIS and HK 416. I really love the Acogs that we're used on those mods.

But that sounds great. I'll look into those packs.
