PostSubject: Republic Commando-based Hardcore character   Fri Mar 27, 2015 8:57 am

To celebrate my new promotion, as well as to give some attention to my favorite VGU mod, @Cpt.Rex's magnificent Clones Ultima, I've decided to begin a new playthrough, but as a legendary Republic Commando. Even though my character, designation RC-2149, isn't my clone trooper captain of the 416th Tactical Battalion, and even though he doesn't have painted armor, he's gonna blast his way through the Mojave... on Hardcore mode.

From the start, I gave myself Power Armor training, along with the Clone Commando armor from Clones Ultima, and all of the Clone Commando weaponry, and it is on Hardcore, so now begins a pretty desperate struggle survival. I do have the Essential Courier mod active; do you guys think that that's cheating somehow?

So... you have power armor training and a ton of good gear from the start, not to mention a mod that prevents you from dying.

Isn't that like, the absolute opposite of hardcore?

@Tesvixen

I never said I was like hard-on, hardcore or anything. I still die really easily, and besides, I'm roleplaying as a Republic Commando. I'm not flying around with cheats and bragging about how amazing I am. I'm just playing the game the way I want to play it.

And besides, if you ever played Republic Commando, that's pretty much how it is - you start with powered armor, shielding, a modular weapon system, and an inability to actually die unless your entire squad kicks the bucket. In this, you have to worry about serious injuries and food, water and shelter. Plus I downloaded a power armor enhancement mod that requires constant charging, and the power units are rather heavy.

So in my first report back to the Republic, I've encountered some very odd locals who drink nothing but good old fashioned booze, just like in the barracks. After getting a rather peculiar, boxy droid to repair my Deece and my armor, I began a long trek towards a large bright city in the distance, though the local wildlife didn't support my mission.

Out of the darkness came packs of ferocious monsters described by the locals as "Deathclaws", and for valid reasoning. These damned lizards were knocking me down left and right, incapacitating me until my shields could recharge... only for those bullies to smack me and knock me down again. It was rather infuriating, but after about 25 set-'em-up-and-I'll-knock-'em-down instances, and plenty of shots from my blaster, I brought those demented creatures down like super battle droids.

I need to find some nourishment and somewhere to bunk overnight. Perhaps that farmhouse out in the middle of the desert and covered in resin would be a suitable candidate?

Actually I'm not a fan of 'difficult for the sake of difficult' either. And I wasn't accusing you or bragging or something.

I thought you were announcing a 'hardcore' difficulty playthrough as a specific character, so I didn't understand the use of overpowered items and an essential mod. You, yourself, asked "do you guys think that that's cheating somehow?" did you not? :p

So I guess I misunderstood what you were implying/saying in the original post... I didn't gather that you were talking about RPing being the main theme of the playthrough.

Another day of marching through this godforsaken desert world. This is worse than the rescue of Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine. It's hot enough to fry an egg on these streets.

Perhaps the most notable discovery is that of numerous other GAR divisions out in this alien world. A small post of the 501st is present in a desolate town named Primm. The 91st Reconnaissance Corps is stationed up at the Mojave Outpost. The entire 212th Attack Battalion is located in a camp outside of a city called New Vegas, which is also the headquarters of the Coruscant Guard. Commander Fox is leading the troops from deep inside the capital city.

My damned armor keeps running out of juice. I swear, I keep having to recharge my armor more than I do with my personal nourishment. This armor has saved me from death left and right, allowing me to be merely incapacitated by injuries that would destroy regular grunts, but it keeps running low on energy, which is rather annoying.

Still using my Deece and my two pistols, though I am surprised by the fact that the bulk of the local population is still using slugthrowers. Sure, there are plenty of folks with blasters and rocket launchers, though it is peculiar that so many people are fond of these crude and primeval weapons.

I tried playing a role in fallout, the basic premise of this was that I am a beta tester for the doctor who fallout mod "Fallout who" (if you are bored go check it on the nexus it is great) however that ended abruptly when I couldn't handle being a pacifist and shot Benny in the face.... repeatedly. your story wins here TongueTril

A serious issue has presented itself, and has prevented me from checking in recently. My Katarn-class armor is out of power, and with no energy units or credits ("caps", in this local region) I was forced to do something that might haunt my memory.

I returned to the gunship that I had crashed aboard, and was forced to look at the mangled bodies of my comrades from the Six Pack - Raptor, Screech, Thud, Chomper and Crash. My brothers in arms and my dear squadmates, all dead. With my personal armor almost dead, I was forced to remove it and buckle up in the personalized armor of CT-5604, or Screech. I still held onto my personal weapons, since they were good to go on ammunition and grenades.

- The armor of CT-5604 "Screech."

Despite all of these misfortunes and inconveniences, I have been positively influencing this desolate planet. In fact, I've befriended a group of locals that I really have a lot in common with - they call themselves the "Boomers", and we met through a barrage of explosive artillery and mortar shells. They, like me, enjoy causing havoc for a righteous cause, and they also smile on blasters - though these oddballs use slugthrowers - and missile launchers.
