Before i give my thoughts, What do you think about Aliens being in Fallout? Do you think they're a fun addition or do you thinks its the worst thing in Fallout lore?

In my opinion, Aliens being in Fallout has to be the stupidest addition to this franchise, lore-wise anyway. In F1 and F2, they were fine, a crashed ship with a fun little blaster. They were nothing but non-canon Easter eggs that were there because Fallout's initial idea was about Aliens. When Vanilla F3 came out all seemed well, small crash site nothing to lose sleep over. Then Mothership Zeta came out, and holy fuck did it screw things up. First off, aliens are now canon and have been monitoring our planet for centuries. They have a death ray that wipes out washington if you're not careful and most of all, in an audio log, it is said that aliens basically started the great war. Because screw all that human decision and conflict nonsense, screw the parallel to the cold war the first two basically were. Doesn't matter because aliens did it. And Bethesda not only keep this canon, they reference it in F4 in the Cabot house and say there are underground alien cities or some shit in the middle east and in the Mojave (Just as a big fuck you to people who liked that game over 3).

This, for me at least, is the worst thing Bethesda have done to the Fallout Franchise and proves they do not posses the intelligence or skill to know how bad of an idea this is.

As someone who likes their lore consistent and proper, i agree. Suddenly, there was no actual human conflict that resulted in the great war? "Sure, it was just implanted Proxies that pressed those Big, red exterminatus buttons in the secret presidential bunkers of every country's Government" "No, no. Fuck off right now"

I always liked the addition of Aliens in the Fallout series as I thought it was fun and mysterious just like some of the other supernatural aspects such as the ghosts you can encounter. It was one of those things that made Fallout unique, weird, and different from all the other post apocalyptic games. Not to mention, I also love watching documentaries on the topic of aliens and UFOs in my own time. With that said, It's hard not to agree with you that Mothership Zeta does mess things up a lot making certain aspects of the lore less meaningful. As much as I enjoyed Mothership Zeta, I just took it as another goofy side-quest not really meant to be taken seriously. That's how it should have been.

To be fair, the audio log was cut from the game from what I remember, so it's technically only a possible implication that they started it. Plus, with the state of the Pre-War Fallout World, the great war would have happened aliens or not, so it doesn't completely change the fact that society was screwed up. Still, I agree that Bethesda has no regard for lore, although I enjoyed Mothership Zeta, and didn't mind it as much as others.

@"Niik Havod" I agree it should have been a silly romp through space with no lore effects. Maybe go all out with the weird like Old World Blues did except in space.

@"VorpalDoom" Yeah, that actually built up lore surrounding the base game, not give bizarre and terrible answers to questions that didn't need answering.

Yeah, everyone treats Mothership Zeta as this black sheep when really it had more sustenance than a couple of the other DLC's for Fallout; at least for it's time. The aesthetics and overall story of Aliens in Fallout of course didn't mesh perfectly, but I think it's a welcome addition to the lore.

But now it seems Bethesda is going a bit rampant with their exploitation of the whole idea, what with Cabot house, but really I enjoy anything schlocky, and that I think is what Fallout does best; schlock.

Hopefully they can keep it in their pants enough so that it's a background stiffy, and not one that unnerves the fanbase enough to cancel the therapy session.

The Aliens could have worked within a Fallout setting. After all, the series draws much of its inspiration from cheesy B-Movies of the 50’s, where flying saucers and ray guns were a common staple. The real problem with Mothership Zeta is it doesn’t bother fleshing them out or doing anything interesting with the concept beyond using it as an excuse for a glorified shooting gallery. Why did the Aliens come to Earth in the first place? What do they want with humanity? What’s their long term goal? If the DLC had actually developed them a little, maybe even allowed us to talk with them then they could have made the Aliens a worthwhile addition to the series.

A common complaint, and one I strongly agree with was the tape that implies the Aliens started the Great War. What if, for example, it turned out they were actually trying to stop it and wanted the codes so they could disarm the missiles before they launched? Perhaps they think that they need to keep humanity in check for our own good. This is just one of the many things Bethesda could have done with the concept. Seeing what the world of Fallout looks like from an outside perspective and what the Aliens think of all humanity’s savagery and warmongering could have been a rich and compelling experience. Instead what we got is proof that as a pure FPS Fallout 3 is mediocre at best.

I think aliens are fine as long as they aren't taken seriously like in Mothership Zeta. I kinda like the idea of aliens being in Old World Blues with Wild Wasteland since Big MT is the closest thing to Area 51 in Fallout. Like the government was experimenting on them or something. That would've been even more fun and wacky.

It's more of a play on the 1950's era Sci-Fi trope. The "little green men." I sincerely doubt we'll ever see a real game focused on them. They're don't impact the lore too much and don't influence major storytelling within the game itself. Like with any paranormal element, it is best left at a minimum, though it's inclusion is a lot of fun.

The whole Aliens started the great war is over the top nonsense, but it isn't exactly confirmed canon and I'd rather it not be. It's pretty much nonsensical. What are the aliens doing? Why are they farming people? Why not take over? It... really makes no sense why they're there or what they're doing. Why were a Samurai, a Cowboy, a Spaceman and a Medic so important to them to be kept in their own special room? Other than the fact that merging two of those would make a Space Cowboy, I see no benefit to this plan of theirs. It's all really just a way to go into space. And all of that was just kind off something I brush off and move on.

I have noticed this along side FO4 at least from some videos and what
I have tried out on my own , aside what Bethesda has aimed out to go and do
They have been doing their *own* Story their own take of Fallout Lore but
all the worth while taking everything from FO1,2 - super mutants
jet , the enclave , The BOS being good guys you know fallout stuff....
they didnt get the idea ey we are far away we can make new drugs
maye make a drug that makes the player lose control and wakes up naked
in an alley after having killed a whole town or something
to be then later on Hunter by Regulators and Talon Company
still found it kinda funny meeting a regulator *How can you do such evil things*
but anyways Fallout 3 with the DLC was a long time ago in game years
maybe someone at Bethesda had just finished X-files
and said this would be really neat if it turns out Aliens killed us off
real spooky 50s b movie stuff where the credits roll after they learn the truth
at least how I would make that *shrugs*

Aside all that , I do wish they sometimes add Rich Folks who buy
all the Crap your find in the DLCs , be gold or alien rocks
this aint morrowind so I can just place em and admire them
on my table hahaha

See I've always been the odd man out when it comes to the Mothership Zeta DLC. I really enjoyed romping around looking trying to escape from the alien ship. It was fun to rally the remaining prisoners to try and defend this crazy place.

Lore wise, Aliens have so much potential to make some awesome lore. They can explain why a civilization that never invented the microchip till close to before the Great War also was able to harness plasma and create laser weapons that could be used as weapons (Quaere Verum FTW!!!). I mean in fallout 2 you meet skynet (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Skynet) which was created with the use of alien tech.

I don't think we need another Mothership Zeta (maybe another OWB), but finding an alien outpost in the next fallout game where you can give the tech to the faction of your choice would be sweet.

I was never aware of the tape so I didn't even know about that little bit of canon/not canon thing. But I enjoyed Mothership Zeta. What I loved even more though, was the mod that came after. Mothership Zeta Crew. That was a brilliant mod and I absolutely loved it.

When you think about it though, Aliens would kind of make sense. All of a sudden there is a huge spike of radiation waves and radio signals coming off a planet and then it goes silent. How could a intelligent race not go and check it out. Maybe they stayed though to observe how everything developed.

@"Evmeister" Aliens weren't canon, they were always supposed to be silly easter eggs for the player to find. Mother Ship Zeta made them an actual threat to the capital wasteland, there by raising them from a funny joke to a major plot line. I found Mother ship zeta to be very boring and the lore that accompanied it to be the worst addition Bethesda could have made aside from declaring the whole series a dream.

If you're talking about aliens in the main game, then sure. They are a great addition I personally like. I really enjoy using the Alien Blaster and discovering crashed UFOs. It's a fun addition and nothing more.

However, if you're mentioning the aliens from MZ, then no. The lore additions with MZ were terrible, and the DLC felt bland, boring and filler. I'd rather play the disaster that was Dead Money than MZ, only because MZ was way more boring.

I really love the crashed UFOs and the easter eggs, but they should stay easter eggs, not canon. Aliens are a welcome addition to canon, but in small doses, and I don't think they should declare the Great War to be a result of the Aliens.

Whatever Beth decides to do with their canon is up to them though.

Regardless of if Aliens in Fallout is a good or bad idea I think it's only logical to say that Aliens are indeed canon, I do believe that in fallouts 1 to 2 (tactics etc) they were just a little easter egg but as of an entire DLC being made about them in Fallout 3 its only logical that Bethesda have transformed Aliens from an easter egg to an official part of the lore.

I always like having aliens or some sort of alien encounter in fallout. This is going back to my fallout 2 days. Going thru certain caves and such finding lurking aliens within and having to deal with them. There has always been that element in most of the fallout series. I know some people never liked them then there were the ones that do.. to each their own in the end.

Plus I mean, there's always been that comical essence in fallout, again I bring up fallout 2 here, and those that have played it, probably recall finding the random encounter with a certain series shuttle craft with a bunch of dead crew around it. I mean common.

So yeah bring on the aliens in fallout, actually wished there was a little more of it in FO4.

I have no problems with aliens in Fallout. Sure, kinda silly, but so is the Fatman lol. As stated above, the comic essence in the dreary landscape of fallout is something that keeps bringing me back for sure! TongueTril Bring me to their leader!
