In the apocalyptic world, would you rather have luck or skill?

For me, I feel like luck trumps everything. Especially if you're outrageously lucky.

Many protagonists in games tend to be the luckiest person, not most skilled. Some examples are:

The Witcher 3: Geralt isn't the most skilled witcher, or the fastest, or the strongest, or the smartest. Yet he's one of the longest living witcher to date.

Halo series: John-117, described as not the best spartan, but he rose above them all. He had a trait that outshone all the other spartans, luck. Skill was eventually honed over time as he became a veteran, but it was luck that kept him alive for so long.

Fallout NV: The courier survived a bullet to the head. If that ain't luck, I don't know what it is.

To be honest, I voted for skill but luck counts.
We all have the example or one day without explanation something has passed and it is said that it is luck.
The training makes 95% of the success, but a little (or sometimes many) of luck it helps!

Man I'd always go for skill. In the real world, you can't rely on luck as it is extremely unpredictable. Unlike skill, it's constant, it's always there and the best part about skill is that you can improve it further Wink Know about John Wick? The guy has skillz man, skillz.

Definitely skill. Luck in movies and video games is just plot armour really. Once that plot armour fades though, the character is vulnerable to the creators cutting them off. With a skilled character, fans would not believe him/her to be bested by some scrub with a toothbrush.

- Darth Vader became the Sith he was because of his training with the Jedi and Darth Sidious. He knows skills from both sides, so therefore he is one of the best.
- Boba Fett learned from his Father Jango Fett how to be the best Bounty Hunter in the Galaxy. Not everyone can earn that title.
- The Dragonborn learns shouts from the Greybeards that he then uses to kill Alduin. Without the shouts taught to him, he wouldn't have been able to even dragonrend.

That's why you see so many montages in movies, because the character develops their skills quickly to take on the final antagonist.

Yes but John Wick is just a movie not real life, with all the possibilities it can happen.

I feel they are both equally important. Even if you are a extremely lucky person, without proper skill you can easily waste the opportunities. Vice versa, skills doesn't matter where you are been put into situations that goes against you in every way.

Gotta have the skill to have any real chance. Everybody's luck runs out.
