"After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.

Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.

We will provide an update if and when this situation changes."

Sony's at fault here, due to their policies. I feel for the PS4 owners who were hoping for this feature.

I saw this coming by a mile away. Bethesda and Sony never get it right, this always happened with the old titles and I was suspecting that would happen with this one.

It really is a damn shame that Playstation players have hit this brick wall. I was hoping that mod support would be available to all users across platforms. Ultimately it would have been a nice way to further connect the Fallout community. There is a plethora of mods currently available and Playstation users cannot even touch it. Even though Beth Net's inception was a monumental disaster it would have been an interesting way to network between players and the modding community.

As MojavePlasma said already, this was foreseeable given how spread out this announcement has been delayed.

I sadly don't play Fallout 4 on the PS4 but i still feel sad for the PS4 users, Sony have fucked all of the people who were hoping for mods.

But then again i was expecting this from a mile away, i somehow knew that Xbox will have mods but PS4 will be more difficult.

I guess Sony would less likely approve the idea of modifying game, or it could be that Sony does not wish Bethesda expand their market by using the platform.

If I remember right, the writing was on the wall when they first delayed it due to Sony's proprietary audio format or something. People give Bethesda shit all the time, and some/a lot of the time rightly so, but it seems like this is all Sony's fault. They already got their cut from the base game and DLC, and now they don't have to "risk" mods because it was Beth who put it the work. Even worse, this is one less reason to pick up Skyrim Remastered. GG Sony, now that you're so far ahead I guess you don't have to try so hard any more.

I bought ps4 month ago for fallout 4 (i cant afford pc right now). And that announcement was like kick in the balls for me. Well at least i didnt bought fallout 4 yet so it isnt that bad Sad

THAT is the PS4 Neo? Holy shit, that thing looks lame, i was expecting it to look a bit more badass since it is meant to be a powerful console, but from the looks of it, i think it will only upscale the resolution a bit.

We still have hope for Xbox Scorpio.

I bought fallout 4 on ps4 first,but i had a feeling something like this would happen given the history of bethesda games on sony platforms.so. said the heck with it and bought a gaming pc.granted i didnt buy it for fallout specificaly.but now that i have i love it the mods on pc are amazing and i can finally play new vegas fullyy modded and not worry zbout it crashing every 5 minutes.still though i feel sorry for all the ps4 gamers who waited paitently for mods.

Sony wont add mod support for the new PS4 console. This is the problem


Sony: We will let you have mods if you review and approve the mods before theyre released. We are extremely petrified of users having access to put code into their consoles
Bethesda: Well we dont really review the mods and we want mod support
Sony: Well if you dont review and approve the mods no mod support for you
Bethesda: Sorry kids, Sony Said no


That's it in a nutshell, it doesn't have anything to do with audio formats or anything else. Sony doesn't want un-reviewed, unapproved code on their consoles. If Bethesda wanted mods that bad they would put a review and approval process in place and appease Sony. But as we have seen much like the wholesale theft of mods from the Nexus to Bethesda.net, Bethesda doesn't want to commit the resources to something they will never profit from.

Think I am wrong? Ps4 players can download mods for Farming Simulator... why? Because the developers who created Farming Simulator have a review and approval process in place. No issues with audio formats there.... funny

This is such an interesting situation...and I'm sure it's due in part to my ignorance but...what is the absolute worst case scenario for having "unapproved code" running on a console? I know Sony has always had a very high opinion of their hardware...but isn't a playstation a toy?

They are afraid that someone will figure out a way to disable DRM or add a new MODCHIP to their consoles. A way people could play iso disks downloaded from the internet. That has always been a fight for Sony. If there is a mechanism like a review and approval process for mods, they relax a bit.

But who sits and reviews user submitted mods? If they sit there for Sony, then Sony has to pay them, if they sit there for Bethesda, they have to pay. And at the end of the day, a salary or several salaries have to be paid with no Return On Investment.
